SINAGAR: The J&K police have registered an FIR against a man running the Instagram page ‘Master Electrician’ for his posts related to the recent protests related to the ongoing war in West Asia.The police said in a statement that the content was provocative and aimed at disrupting law and order in Kashmir.This is the first official acknowledgment by the police of having lodged an FIR in the matter following the recent widespread protests in Kashmir over the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Husseini Khamenei.
According to a police statement, the Chadoora police station in Budgam received information that Suhail Ahmad Bhat, a local resident, had uploaded a video on his Instagram account ‘Master Electrician’ related to the recent protests against the current situation in West Asia. Police said “these videos are intended to outrage young people and members of the public, thereby posing a potential threat to public order” but did not disclose the content of the page. “Accordingly, an FIR has been registered and investigation has begun.”Police ask people not to share unsubstantiated or provocative content on social media.Police on Tuesday said a case has been registered against National Conference MP Ruhullah Mehdi and former Srinagar mayor Junaid Azim Mattu for “spreading false, fabricated and misleading content on digital and social media platforms with the intention of creating fear, disturbing public order and inciting illegal activities”. However, police made no mention of the recent protests. The FIR was registered under various departments of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Cyber Police Station, Srinagar.
