IRS officer’s daughter murdered: Autopsy reveals ‘multiple abrasions, broken nose’ and signs of physical struggle before death

NEW DELHI: The autopsy results of the investigation into the rape and murder of an IRS officer’s daughter have revealed multiple injury patterns indicating violent attack and struggle before death, news agency ANI quoted Dr Sudhir Gupta, head of forensic medicine at Delhi’s AIIMS.The 22-year-old woman reportedly died early on Wednesday and the accused, Rahul Meena, was later arrested from Delhi’s Dwarka.

Dr. Gupta said an external examination revealed multiple scrapes and abrasions on both arms, hands and legs, consistent with the victim’s resistance. He said: “External examination revealed multiple scrapes and abrasions on both arms, hands and legs, indicating signs of a struggle.”He also cited facial injuries, including a broken nasal bone, indicating blunt force trauma. Dr Gupta added: “There were multiple abrasions on the face and a fractured nasal bone – blunt force impact.”During the internal examination, significant findings were reported in the neck area. “On dissection of the neck, intramuscular bleeding was noted in the sternocleidomastoid, sternothyroid and sternohyoid muscles,” he said.For further forensic analysis, visceral samples, nail clippings and blood samples were preserved at the request of investigators to help determine the exact cause and sequence of events.Police sources said the accused allegedly entered South Delhi’s Mount Kailash apartment using a spare key, went straight to the rooftop study, assaulted the victim and then dragged her blood-soaked body downstairs.The accused, a domestic worker, allegedly attempted to strangle him before the attack escalated. Police said the victim lost consciousness and was subsequently fatally struck multiple times with heavy objects and was suspected of sexual assault.He allegedly fled with cash and valuables, tried to evade detection using fake phone calls and discarded his phone to destroy digital evidence, the source added. He was later traced to Palam railway station where he tried to escape but failed to board the train.Meanwhile, a Saket court sentenced the accused to four days of police custody for further questioning. He was taken to court after police sought custody to continue investigations.The victim, an IIT Delhi graduate and aspiring to become a civil servant, had been preparing for her first UPSC attempt and had set up a separate study room on the terrace for intensive preparation.Currently, the case has been opened for investigation on charges of rape, murder and robbery, and further investigation is ongoing.
