Iranian MP discusses Pakistan peace talks
Mahmoud Nabavian, a member of the Iranian parliament’s national security and foreign policy committee, criticized recent talks with the United States in Pakistan, calling the decision to raise Tehran’s nuclear program a “strategic mistake.”“Nabavian said in an interview with SNN TV and in a video clip later posted on X that putting the Iranian nuclear issue on the table during talks in Pakistan weakened Tehran’s position. “We made a strategic mistake in the negotiations with Pakistan. We should not have put the nuclear issue in the negotiations,” he said, adding, “Doing so would have emboldened the enemy” (ANI translation).According to Nabavian, Washington has demanded that Iran’s stockpile of 60% enriched uranium be removed and frozen for 20 years; he said Tehran has rejected these conditions.Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has struck a defiant tone, downplaying pressure to end the ongoing conflict. In an article published in Truth Social, Trump said he was in no rush to reach a deal and warned that time was not working against Iran.“I have all the time in the world, but Iran does not – time is ticking,” he wrote, claiming Iran’s military capabilities had severely degraded and the blockade on the country remained firm. He added that any deal could only be finalized if it served the interests of the United States and its allies.Separately, a report from Politico noted that during hearings on Capitol Hill, top U.S. officials avoided committing to a timetable for easing energy prices. Some Republican lawmakers said the 60 days of conflict would be critical in determining whether they continue to support it.
