Indian techie in Ohio dies after suffering ‘rare and devastating medical emergency’; GoFundMe launched for family
A 34-year-old software engineer living in Ohio He died of what his relatives described as a rare and catastrophic disease called “Type A aortic dissection.” Venkata Raviteja (“Ravi”) Ravipati was immediately rushed to the hospital and underwent major surgery, but unfortunately, he could not be saved. The tragic incident occurred between July 17 and 18.
After his death, his friends and family launched a fundraising campaign detailing Ravi’s unexpected medical crisis after he ate dinner. Suddenly, he began to experience severe pain in his left leg that radiated to his chest. The family called 911 and he was taken to the nearest emergency room, where doctors diagnosed him with Type A aortic dissectionrequiring immediate surgery.
Ravi was transferred to University Hospital cleveland. However, despite the surgery, he did not recover and died.

“Ravi was a loving husband, devoted father to his precious two-year-old son, a loving son and a dear friend to many. He was a software professional living in Cleveland, Ohio, with dreams for his young family and had recently celebrated the purchase of their new home. His parents had traveled from India just days earlier to celebrate this joyful milestone with him. None of us could have imagined that this celebration would turn into unimaginable heartbreak,” the fundraiser said.
“He leaves behind a wife of 26 years and a 2-year-old son, whose lives were forever changed overnight. As Lala remains in the United States on an H-1B visa, his family now faces not only overwhelming grief, but also significant financial and practical challenges as they face an uncertain future,” the statement said.
“Your donation will help support Ravi’s wife and son as they face funeral expenses, immediate living expenses, and a difficult road ahead. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will go directly toward helping them through this season of unimaginable loss.”

The fundraiser, started by Sivamani Maddineni, has raised $108,394 of $170,000 to date. His funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, at Busch Funeral Home, according to the campaign.
What is type A aortic dissection?
Type A dissections occur when a tear forms in the ascending part of the aorta (where it branches from the heart), while type B dissections occur in the lower aorta. Although dissection type A is considered the more dangerous variant, with prompt detection and treatment, the likelihood of survival is greatly increased.
Aortic dissection is more common in men and people over 60 years of age. The main modifiable risk factor is chronic high blood pressure, which puts tremendous pressure on the lining of the aorta, making it susceptible to tearing. Other important risk factors include the presence of fatty plaque, areas of tissue weakness, aortic bulging, and aortic valve (including mitral valve) abnormalities.
