Harivansh Narayan Singh was elected Vice Chairman of the House of Commons for the third consecutive term
New Delhi: Nominated Members Harivansh Narayan SinghA member of the Janata Dal was elected unopposed as deputy chairman of the House of Federation on Friday for a third consecutive term.The post of deputy chairman fell vacant after Harivansh’s last term ended on April 9. Union Minister and Leader of the House JP Nadda moved the first motion for his election.Prime Minister Narendra Modi Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge congratulated Harivansh on his election. This is the first time that a nominated member has been elected vice-chairman.“Being elected as Deputy Chairman for a third consecutive term is a testament to the deep trust that the House has in you, and that the House has benefited from your experience over the past period and your efforts to lead everyone,” Prime Minister Modi said in a speech in the Lok Sabha.“We have all seen that the power of the Lok Sabha has become more effective under Harivansh’s leadership. He not only presided over the proceedings of the Lok Sabha but also used his past experience to enrich the content of the Lok Sabha with precision,” Modi added.The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the Deputy Chairman’s new term will continue “with the same spirit, balance and dedication” and that the dignity of the House will reach new heights through collective efforts.Harivansh is a journalist-turned-politician who has served as deputy chairman since 2018.
