Sadiq Khan urges people to attend London’s biggest Eid festival

London’s iconic Trafalgar Square will host one of the city’s most vibrant cultural events, Eid in the Square returns on Saturday 30 May 2026.Billed as London’s biggest Eid celebration, the free event brings thousands of people from across the capital together for a day full of live entertainment, food and family-friendly activities.London Mayor Sadiq Khan stressed on social media that the event was open to everyone and aimed at celebrating the rich diversity of London’s Muslim community with people of all faiths and backgrounds.Khan said on X (formerly Twitter): “Don’t miss it: London’s biggest Eid celebrations take place today in Trafalgar Square.”

Celebrating culture, community and Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Fitr in the square marks Eid al-Adha, one of Islam’s two major festivals and the climax of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. This year’s celebrations coincide with the final days of Eid celebrations.The event highlighted the multicultural character of London’s Muslim community, with participation from Turkish, Middle Eastern, Palestinian, Malaysian, Indonesian, North African and South Asian groups, as well as non-Muslim visitors eager to join in the festivities.

Live performances take center stage

Visitors can watch exciting performances throughout the day. The main stage will feature performances by the London Arabian Orchestra, the London Turkish Society Dance Company and the Khan Brothers Qawwali Orchestra.The schedule will also include live discussions, cultural presentations, calls to prayer and a series of interactive activities designed to highlight the traditions and heritage of Muslim communities around the world.

Family activities, shopping and hands-on workshops

A dedicated family area will offer creative activities including lantern making, headwear workshops, calligraphy classes and stencil art.Children and families can also enjoy face painting, while a live demonstration of Muslim girls’ fencing will give visitors the opportunity to learn basic fencing skills and participate in the sport.

Street food from around the world

Food lovers will be dazzled by the variety of international delicacies served in the square. Vendors are expected to offer everything from Afghan barbecue dishes and Korean fried chicken to halal German hot dogs, fries and an array of desserts.Shoppers can also browse stalls from popular brands and community businesses, adding to the festive atmosphere.

‘London’s diversity is our greatest strength’

Mayor Sadiq Khan said the event provided an opportunity for Londoners and visitors to come together and celebrate the significant contribution that the Muslim community makes to the city.He described Eid in the Square as a reflection of London’s diversity and an opportunity to strengthen connections between communities through culture, food and shared experiences.Organizers say the event provides a unique opportunity for attendees to connect with thousands of Londoners from all backgrounds, reinforcing Trafalgar Square’s role as a gathering place for the city’s many communities.
