Greg Abbott is under fire for his Diwali video saying Texas will become Indian land as long as he is governor.
An old video of Texas Governor Greg Abbott went viral on Monday, saying Texas will become the land of the Indian community as long as he remains governor, with social media users sharing the video claiming Abbott said the words after Hindus got into an altercation while watching a Chhath puja in Texas. “Greg Abbott declared Texas a place for Indian communities, so what about Greg, the Texan? Where do we go?” Internet celebrity Kelly Campbell said, retweeting Abbott’s video. “What reason would Greg have for him to say something like this,” the influencer said. The video is from Diwali celebrations and not recent. “As long as I am governor of this great state, Texas will be the land of the Indian community… We will continue to celebrate Diwali in the great state of Texas,” Abbott said in the video. “What a shame @GregAbbott_TX. Pandering to every third world culture while doing nothing to protect Texas: ‘Texas will become Indian Land,'” said Republican leader Alexander Duncan. The attack on Abbott comes amid rising hatred of Indians, especially in Texas, which is home to a large number of immigrants, including Indians. Several influential figures in Texas have begun talking about what they call an “Indian takeover” of the state, while many claim to have stopped H-1B visa abuse. Greg Abbott halted H-1B visa hiring at Texas universities and institutions, a major step against a visa program that allows companies to hire professional workers from outside. Recently, another controversy erupted in Texas after a video showed Indians pouring milk into a lake during Chhath puja celebrations in Denton. Many posts claim Abbott’s comments about the Indian community came after the Chhath puja row.Abbott won the Texas Republican primary last month, seeking a fourth consecutive term.
