Denmark’s defense minister said on Sunday that Greenland does not need medical help from other countries, after US President Donald Trump claimed that a hospital ship would be sent to the autonomous Danish territory.Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen told Danish broadcaster DR: “Greenland residents receive the health care they need. They either receive treatment in Greenland or, if they need special treatment, they receive it in Denmark. So there is no need for a special health care plan in Greenland.”Healthcare is free in both Greenland and Denmark. There are five regional hospitals on the Arctic island. According to AFP, hospitals in Nuuk treat patients from all over the country.Earlier this month, the local Greenlandic government signed an agreement with Copenhagen to improve the treatment of Greenlandic patients in Danish hospitals.“We will be sending a great hospital ship to Greenland to take care of the many sick people who are not being taken care of there,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social on Saturday. He added: “On the way!!!”Trump had earlier said the United States must control Greenland for security reasons. However, after defeating his previous threat, he had given up the chance to capture it. “The “framework” agreement with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte is intended to ensure greater U.S. influence.
