Government wants Parliament to meet on March 28-29

New Delhi: The government has proposed to hold the Parliament session on March 28-29, the last weekend of the month, to make up for some holidays during the current working days. budget meetingit was also marred by a host of issues. Sources said the suggestion was made by the Lok Sabha Business Advisory Committee, which includes officials from different parties, but a final decision is yet to be taken. While official sources attributed the reason to ensuring sufficient time for the government’s legislative agenda, the development comes at a time when the ruling coalition is seeking to amend the Women’s Reserves Act to decouple it from delimitation for a speedy rollout. Ahead of the second part of the meeting on March 9, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kieron Rijiju has said the government will introduce a “key” bill. It has since emerged that he has been in touch with different opposition parties over the implementation of the women’s reservation law.
