Geauga County shooting report: KOA campground fears active shooter; first details

Multiple profiles on X shared an update for the Scanner Radio app, a live police scanner available for Android and iOS devices. “Active Incident: Shooting – Possible at KOA Campground. No other details available at this time,” one wrote.
The Geauga County Sheriff’s Office has not released an official update and there were no reports of injuries. There is also no information on the potential shooter or his motive. A Facebook group is also tracking crime in the area release There was an “active shooter” situation there.
“Active shooter at KOA campground. People hiding in cabins. Shooter hiding in woods. *Geauga County. *UPDATE…so far, luckily it sounds like no one has been hurt! The shooter has not been caught,” the group noted. A later update from the group said the gunman had been captured. “The shooter has been captured!” someone shared.

While it’s unclear where in Geauga County the shooting occurred, many netizens said it happened in Thompson.
“Who would have thought this would happen camping anywhere!! People are going crazy!!! What!?” one person said angrily. Another expressed concern, writing: “Oh Thompson has no family. Praying this or someone else is caught soon.”
Someone else added: “Omg this is horrific.”
One person claiming to be in the area also wrote: “I saw emergency vehicles flying up 166.” Meanwhile, someone asked if there was something less serious, like someone shooting on a neighbor’s property. “Or was it just someone shooting at a neighboring property?” one person asked, noting that “multiple 911 calls stated he was shooting at campers.”
Others claimed they heard gunshots, with reports of shots fired at the Thompson KOA campground. “I hear gunshots right now,” one person wrote. Another added, “Which campground it is because I heard what looked like firecrackers near my house and I live near Thompson.”
Thompson’s KOA Campground is located at 6445 Ledge Road.
