New Delhi: A fire broke out at a fireworks storage facility in Mundathikode area of Thrissur district in Kerala, killing 13 people and injuring many others, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) confirmed on Tuesday.Five people were in intensive care, two were admitted to wards and 17 others suffered minor injuries, according to the agency.Health Minister Veena George directed to ensure specialized medical care to the injured and directed Thrissur Medical College to make all necessary arrangements for their treatment. She also ordered the deployment of adequate ambulances to the scene, including Kanivu 108 ambulances.KC Venugopal, a native of Kerala and Congress general secretary, expressed grief over the tragedy, saying he was “pained to hear the scale of the disaster” and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.“I am shocked by the news of the explosion at a fireworks storage facility in Thrissur, which occurred just days before the festival of Puram. I am anguished by the deaths of at least six people and completely numb by the scale of the destruction. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families at this sad time. I offer my sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.
