Effingham Tornado: New warnings issued for parts of Illinois after tornado reportedly touched down nearby; watch scary video of tornado

Earlier in the day, video of a tornado near Effingham was widely shared. However, there is currently no information on the reported damage from the landing.

One person shared a photo of the sky from earlier in the day showing a tornado forming. “Earlier, a strong, damaging tornado occurred near Effingham, Illinois,” they wrote.
Another post shared footage of the tornado, writing “Earlier footage of the tornado in Effingham, IL was absolutely incredible!”.
People also shared videos of the tornado on Facebook. Someone noted that they saw a tornado northwest of Effingham. Video showed a huge tornado on the ground.
Another added, “Our house looks north toward Effingham. Tornado?” while sharing a photo of what appeared to be a tornado in the distance.
One person commenting on the photo wrote: “Yes it landed just north of Effingham. We can see it from our house in Bible Grove too.”
Someone else shared a clip of the sky and wrote “There’s a tornado warning in Effingham and the thunder was scary. Just saw it. The tornado was right in front of our house and looked very close.” You can see all video here.
“Not long ago, a massive and destructive cone tornado occurred in Effingham, Illinois,” the Facebook page reads.
Someone else shared the photo, writing: “My friends in the Effingham and T-Town areas and Charleston, IL were just hit hard by a powerful tornado. Please keep them in your prayers tonight. As far as southern Illinois, I expect the storm to roll through here tonight around 1 to 3 a.m. Strong winds and small hail are the main threats.”

“Drill action on the Effingham, IL tornado. A few minutes later, as I descended 200 yards south, I was able to sit at the exact spot where the tornado crossed the road,” the person wrote.
