Chip Roy’s new bill for H-1B seeks to end lottery and OPT: putting white-collar Americans first

Chip Roy introduces new bill opposing H-1B visa program

Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy has introduced a new bill aimed at ending H-1B visa abuses called the American White Collar Jobs Act. “It’s time to end this lottery-based pipeline and replace it with a system that prioritizes performance, enforces real wages and puts America’s white-collar workers first,” said Chip Roy. This adds to a list of several other similar bills proposed by Republican politicians to rein in the economy. H-1B visa The system is far from being adopted and implemented. The Daily Caller reports that Chip Roy’s bill would require labor market testing to determine whether employers are making a good faith effort to hire local workers before hiring H-1B visa holders. Department of Labor and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.“Throughout its nearly four-decade history, the H1-B visa has been abused, allowing employers to routinely squeeze out American STEM workers in favor of cheap foreign labor while masking layoffs and wage suppression as ‘shortages,'” Roy told callers.“It’s time to end this lottery-based pipeline and replace it with a system that prioritizes performance, enforces real wages and puts America’s white-collar workers first,” Roy said.

Chip Roy’s bill pushes to end OPT

While Roe’s bill does not seek to end H-1B, he fully supports ending optional practical training, which has been a conduit for college students to enter the job market. Roy wants to abolish the OPT program.Recently, U.S. authorities, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, announced investigations into suspected OPT-related fraud. Officials say they have identified more than 10,000 students with ties to employers they consider suspicious, with investigators reporting cases involving empty offices, shell companies and unverifiable employment claims.
