On Facebook, that person additional “Victory Missionary Baptist Church, located at North Second Street and North Eighth Avenue. Birmingham Fire and Rescue said one firefighter was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.”
Someone else shared a close-up where thick smoke could be seen at the scene. “Please compare with the same scene after the smoke cleared…” they said.
From the photos, it appears to be a structure fire. Several fire engines could be seen at the scene extinguishing the fire. It’s unclear what caused the fire.

Many said smoke could be seen from the city center, while others lamented that the church might be on fire. “Can see it from the regional field,” one added. Many people are praying for our first responders, with one saying: “Praying for our first responders’ neighbors.”
