preliminary report: Unconfirmed eyewitness reports suggest there may be shooting Shooting at Merriman Valley’s Rowdy Oyster Bar in Akron, Ohio.

Several witnesses reported hearing gunshots, and authorities advised residents in nearby neighborhoods to stay indoors, according to preliminary accounts.

However, police are yet to confirm these reports.

A popular Ohio Facebook page, 330ToGO, posted this: “Akron Merriman Valley: We have received information about a shooting on the ‘Noisy Oyster.’ This is a developing story.”

The page adds, “In addition, we heard a very loud roar coming from the area. This is not speculation, but a fairly loud roar was heard throughout much of West Akron and Highland Square.”

In another update, it read: “Akron Meri Bangkok: Noisy Oyster shooting suspect has fled the area. Lock your doors. APD is searching.”

Multiple witnesses and local residents also reported heavy police activity in the area.

One person wrote: “I was in Highland Square and I heard a lot of sirens going by where I was on the portage road.”

Another added, “About 20 police cars and ambulances headed that way. About 10 minutes later, the ambulance flew along the West Market back to the hospital.”

A third person reported: “I was nearby as I was coming back from the falls. I usually take that route home but saw lots and lots of emergency vehicles and decided to take a detour. Two other police cars and an ambulance flew past me.”

Another resident added, “I just drove by there and wondered what was going on. I saw the ranger’s car parked near the entrance to the sand trail and I figured there might be a suspect who got away, but not sure what happened.”

Another wrote: “Around the same time we heard a boom in the Springfield/Akron area near the Soap Box Derby site.”
