West Bengal polls: TMC claims BJP is behind Siliguri office arson attack, shares video

New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of “crossing all lines”, claiming that one of its party offices in Siliguri was set on fire and shared a video of the alleged incident on social media. The party said the behavior reflected a “desire for destruction”. The allegation comes against the backdrop of multiple attacks on TMC offices across West Bengal at a time when the 2026 assembly election results are reshaping the political landscape of the state.An office of the TMC in Godhuli area of ​​Asansol was allegedly vandalized on Monday with furniture destroyed and flags, posters and banners torn down. Earlier in the day, another office in Dumuljala, Howrah, was also targeted, with video showing windows broken, furniture scattered and party flags thrown onto the road. This is at least the second and third such incident reported in as many hours.Tensions have also turned into direct confrontation. In Cooch Behar, Dinhata town block TMC president Bishu Dhar was allegedly attacked outside the counting centre. “We are members of the Trinamool Congress party. We march forward bravely. I knew they would attack me, but I still walked in. This is the culture of the BJP,” he said.The violence unfolded as the BJP secured a landslide victory in the state, winning 206 of 294 seats, according to the Election Commission of India. The TMC won around 80 seats, marking a dramatic reversal in fortunes for the Mamata Banerjee-led party.Banerjee lost to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari by more than 15,000 votes, a major symbolic blow. Adhikari also retained Nandigram, winning by 9,665 votes. Speaking after his victory, he praised the “Hindu people of Nandigram” and launched a scathing attack on the TMC, claiming the party would be “over in 24 hours”.
