According to NBC News, the San Jose Police Department said the shooting occurred near the intersection of North Market Street and West Santa Clara Street at around 9:12 pm local time. The victim died at the scene and the other person was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the case was being investigated as a homicide, Reuters reported. The identity of the victim has not been released, and officials have not released any details about the suspects or a possible motive.

A security guard at the scene said the victim suffered injuries to his neck and back.

“The man was still moaning. There was blood on his neck and upper back,” she told Reuters. “Police are speaking to security guards and several witnesses.”
