The incident happened around 2 a.m. near Empire Pizza in downtown Tucson. Police patrolling the area heard gunshots and responded. There. They encountered the suspect and issued “repeated commands,” before an officer shot the suspect.

Frank Magos of the Tucson Police Department said many of the victims were shot in the limbs and were treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital in “critical condition.” All those involved in the shooting were adults, but the names of the victims have not been released. In the meantime, here’s everything you need to know about the Tucson mass shooting suspect.

Magos told a news conference that the suspect’s identity is “known” to police but will not be disclosed at this time. Magos described the suspect as a local man, UPI News reported.

According to reports, the suspect is currently receiving treatment in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Little is known about the circumstances or motive of the Tucson shooting.

On social media, someone claimed the suspect was “David French.”

“A name has emerged in connection with last night’s mass shooting in downtown Tucson, Arizona, but it is not official and does not come from police. TPD has not yet released the suspect’s name or indicated a motive,” the post states.

It is certain that the claims come from unconfirmed personal information and police have made it clear that the name will not be released to the public at this time. HT.com could not independently verify the social media claims.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the shooting, and the Tucson Police Department will conduct an internal administrative investigation into the officer who shot the suspect. The officer’s name has also not been released.

Police may release the suspect’s name when he is formally charged or jailed, the report said.

Mayor Regina Romero releases statement on Tucson shooting

Mayor Regina Romero released a statement Regarding the Tucson shooting, he said: “Last night, Tucson experienced another severe and senseless act of gun violence. A gunman recklessly opened fire in a crowded area, attacking nine people before being restrained by Tucson police officers. Thanks to the quick actions and outstanding care of our firefighters and police officers, all victims were stabilized and transported to the hospital, where we hope they all recover.”

Romero added, “As we all know, the impact of this act of gun violence extends beyond the scene and the victims. It affects all of us: family and friends, first responders, witnesses, our entire community. We know these moments leave a lasting impression on us and our sense of safety. Easy access to firearms and vulnerable populations in Arizona. gun safety laws continues to put us all at risk. From requiring universal background checks to extreme risk laws to funding violence prevention, lawmakers can and should do more. “

Additionally, the mayor continued, “We should all stay safe in all public spaces, schools, homes, shopping malls and places of worship. To the victims, I pray for their recovery and speedy recovery. To the first responders, I say thank you. To our communities, please join us in taking action against gun violence and helping victims and those affected by gun violence heal.”
