Crump said in a recent interview with Don Lemon that Wells’ body is being flown to Washington, D.C., for forensic examination. He added that a second autopsy would determine “whether there were any injuries to his body other than drowning.”
Crump told Lemon that his investigation is still in the very early stages and he doesn’t yet know if they will find signs of foul play. He added that the Sheriff’s Office has not yet told the family whether they suspect foul play.
“We don’t have any information at this time that would lead us to believe a crime occurred,” Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter told ABC News earlier this week.
He added that the family was concerned about “inconsistencies,” including deleted text messages from Wells’ phone.
According to Crump, Wells participated in a Division I workout on Monday. He is reportedly avoiding substances that could affect his performance. His family said he was an excellent athlete and swimmer.
