Russia launched a new wave of missile and drone attacks in Ukraine on Saturday, killing at least six people and wounding dozens more, Ukrainian officials said. Kyiv has renewed its call for urgent deliveries of air defense systems, saying a growing shortage of interceptor missiles has left it increasingly vulnerable to Russian attacks.The attacks hit several cities, including Sumy, Odessa, Kharkiv and Kiev, while Ukraine claimed to have intercepted most incoming drones and cruise missiles but said it remained unable to prevent ballistic missile attacks due to its dwindling stockpile of Patriot missiles.Ukrainian authorities said the deadliest attack occurred in the northern city of Sumy, where two Russian glide bombs struck a crowded area, killing four people and wounding 17 others.One of the bombs hit a bus stop, Reuters reported. Images released by officials showed a yellow bus torn apart in the blast.Earlier in the day, a missile attack hit the southern port city of Odessa, killing two people and injuring one, while a Russian drone struck a civilian business in Kharkiv, injuring seven.In Kiev, 11 people were injured in overnight ballistic missile, cruise missile and drone attacks. In response to the attack, Ukrainian President Zelensky said that civilian areas were attacked before the air strike warning was issued.“Civilian infrastructure was attacked even before the air raid warning was issued,” Zelensky said, adding that “our defenders succeeded in shooting down most of the targets, but not ballistic targets.”He urged Ukraine’s allies to quickly deliver on the air defense package agreed at this week’s NATO summit.The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched six ballistic missiles, six cruise missiles and 121 drones overnight before launching subsequent attacks on Odessa, Kharkiv and Sumy.Air defense forces reportedly intercepted 111 drones and at least two cruise missiles.Ukrainian officials have repeatedly warned that a severe shortage of ammunition for the country’s U.S.-made Patriot air defense system leaves it increasingly vulnerable to ballistic missile attacks. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said this week that Ukraine would receive a license to produce Patriot interceptor missiles domestically.After Saturday’s attack, Zelensky said the plans should be implemented “as soon as possible.”As Russia steps up airstrikes, Ukraine says it continues to target Russian military logistics facilities in occupied southern Ukraine.Meanwhile, Russian authorities said one person was killed when Ukrainian drones attacked four ships, including a methanol tanker, in the Taganrog Bay in the Sea of Azov. Fires broke out at two fuel depots and the Taganrog seaport after drone strikes on Friday, Reuters reported, citing officials.
