Key piece of evidence, roommate’s interview takes center stage in Taylor Robinson’s hearing.

TAYLOR ROBINSON HEARING LIVE: Charlie Kirk’s parents, Katherine and Robert Kirk (right), arrive at the 4th District Court in Provo, Utah, for the hearing of Taylor Robinson, who is accused of shooting Charlie Kirk.
Listen to Tyler Robinson live: A preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson, charged in the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, entered its fourth day Thursday, with prosecutors expected to present more evidence as the case nears conclusion. Utah prosecutors plan to play a recording of a law enforcement interview with Robinson’s roommate, Lance Twiggs, whose statements have become a key focus of the proceedings. After Kirk was killed at Utah Valley University, Twiggs was granted limited-use immunity in exchange for cooperating with investigators.
The hearing will determine whether prosecutors have presented enough evidence for Robinson to stand trial in the case. Robinson has not yet entered a plea, and his attorney has not commented publicly on his guilt or innocence.
roommate statement
Defense attorneys have challenged the public release of Twiggs’ statement, arguing prosecutors could characterize the interview as a confession and that widespread media coverage could affect Robinson’s right to a fair trial.
The dispute comes as the court weighs the balance between transparency and protecting Robinson’s right to a fair trial. Jeffrey Neiman, an attorney representing the Kirk family, argued the evidence presented during the hearing should be made public.
“It should be released for the world to see,” Neiman said before court proceedings ended on Wednesday, adding, “without any redactions.” Defense attorney Richard Novak opposed the request, arguing that releasing some evidence could harm Robinson’s ability to receive a fair trial.
Prosecutor details Robinson’s surrender and evidence collection
During Wednesday’s hearing, Utah Bureau of Investigation Agent Brian Davis testified that Robinson turned himself in at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 11, accompanied by his parents and a family friend.
Robinson was formally arrested the next day and taken to the Utah County Jail, where investigators collected his clothing, fingerprints and DNA based on a search warrant, Davis said. Robinson testified that investigators later searched his home and his parents’ residence.
Davis also told the court that Twiggs was interviewed twice by investigators, provided DNA samples and was granted limited use immunity before cooperating. Twiggs was warned that providing false information during the second interview could result in a Class A misdemeanor charge.
State District Judge Tony Graf reminded both sides that the preliminary hearing is scheduled to end Friday.
