Crump shared his views in a social media post that quickly gained traction online. Attorneys compared Anthony’s case to that of Texas teen Kaysen Allison, who was convicted of stabbing classmate Jose “Joe” Luis Ramirez at Belton High School.
“Two Texas cases. Two different outcomes. Two Americas,” Crump wrote.
In May 2022, Allison stabbed Ramirez during a confrontation in a school bathroom, according to court records. Defense attorneys argued that Allison acted in self-defense after being confronted by Ramirez and several friends.
Jurors declined to convict Allison of murder or manslaughter. Instead, they found him guilty of criminally negligent homicide. In June 2025, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
However, Ramirez’s family said Allison’s sentence did not provide justice for the family and Joe Ramirez.
His aunt, Nikki Roberts, said: “Joe was the kindest, most caring, loving child I have ever known… Our lives will never be the same… I don’t think we got justice in this case.”

Supporters claim bias, plan to appeal
Anthony’s case continues to spark heated discussions online and across Texas. Anthony’s mother, Carla Hayes, and supporters criticized the verdict after it was handed down. Some attendees chanted “racist” and “prejudice” slogans outside the court.

Cardi B also retweeted more posts in support of Anthony, with one saying he “deserves better” and another writing, “Carmelo Anthony saved a man’s life almost four years ago but don’t let these trolls or the mainstream media tell you otherwise. They are trying to character attack his image like mainstream society always does.”
Meanwhile, the New York Post reports that Anthony has officially announced that he plans to file a notice of appeal.
