“In this case, it was really a racial issue because I’m pretty sure, I’m 100 percent sure, especially in Texas where this happens a lot – if Anthony was white and he had a bunch of black football players around him and the two twins, it would be a very different situation,” said.

She also raised questions about the circumstances of the confrontation, adding: “I highly doubt Anthony went to a tent full of strong footballers by himself. [saying]”Yes, I will cause a commotion because I have a knife on me.”

Cady further said, “Just because you have a knife and you’re going up against 14 strong boys who shovel people for a living, it doesn’t make you feel tough because someone’s going to knock the knife out of your hand. I highly doubt he went there.”

Cady even argued that Metcalf should have let adults intervene rather than escalate the situation himself.

“What do they tell us in school? If you have a problem with someone: Go to a teacher, go to an adult. If Austin has a problem with Anthony being in the tent, he should go to the coach and tell the coach, ‘Get him out of the tent,'” Cardi argued. “But Austin took [it] Put it into his hands and attack Antony.

She added, “Now in life, I have to learn something, just because someone pisses you off… if you put your hands on them, it’s still wrong. It’s illegal to put your hands on someone else. He put his hands on someone else. Austin is twice his size. Not only that, but I heard he knew how to do jiu-jitsu. He was surrounded and he was protecting himself.”

Cady then criticized the speed with which the jury reached its verdict, arguing they should have considered manslaughter.

“They had the option of convicting him of manslaughter because obviously it wasn’t murder. They probably just felt, ‘You know what? We’re hungry and we’re tired and I don’t want to come back tomorrow. That’s what it is.'” No thought, no care, nothing. There was no thought, no sight of the boy – he had never been to jail, was a good kid, active in school. I really feel that 35 years is too long, too long,” she said.

Cady questions how self-defense is applied in such cases and asks when the law actually recognizes self-defense.

“This is America,” Cardi said during the live broadcast. “I definitely learned something from it. I learned to tell my sons: Don’t argue with the white boys, because baby, if something happens to them, there’s no law to protect you… just walk away.”
