Tarapati Vijay at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.The TVK force led by Vijay emerged as the main disruptor in the state assembly elections, breaking the 50-year-old duopoly of the traditional Dravidian forces (Dravida Munnetra Kazagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagam). However, TVK failed to secure a majority and Congress has since joined the alliance and extended its support to Vijay from its five MLAs while severing ties with the Stalin-led predecessor DMK, a move seen as a major blow to the Indian bloc.
