NCRB data shows that murders in India will drop by 2.4% in 2024, and crimes against women will drop by 1.5%
New Delhi: Murder cases in India fell by 2.4 per cent in 2024, the latest NCRB data shows. Overall, 5.88 million cases of cognizable crime were registered in the country in 2024, a decrease of 6% compared to 2023 when 6.24 million cases were reported. The number of crimes against women in 2024 was 441,000, compared with 448,000 the previous year, a decrease of 1.5%. The crime rate per 100,000 female population also dropped from 66.2 to 64.6. The registered crime rate per 100,000 population fell from 448.3 in 2023 to 418.9 in 2024. The data shows that crimes against the state increased by 6.6%, with 5,194 cases registered in 2024 compared to 4,873 in 2023. In 2024, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau registered as many as 4,053 cases, compared with 4,069 cases in 2023, a slight decrease of 0.4%. Economic crime increased by 4.6% in 2024, with 214,000 cases, compared with 204,000 cases in 2023
