a structure fire In DeLand, Floridawhich sparked a huge response on Wednesday, with gruesome visuals shared on set. The Volusia County Professional Firefighters Association released a statement saying the fire occurred at 906 South Garfield Avenue. They further added that it is a recycling plant.

“DeLand Professional Firefighters and Volusia County Professional Firefighters are on scene. There is a large group of firefighters in the area with smoke billowing. Crews are working on scene so be careful with crews,” they wrote, sharing a visual of the scene.
A local publication noted that it may have been a scrapyard fire and shared video from the scene where thick smoke can be seen rising into the air.
“There is a possible scrapyard fire near Amelia Avenue in DeLand… Drivers may want to avoid the area for now,” they wrote on Facebook.
Someone else shared a photo of the fire from a distance, where thick black smoke could be seen.
The official cause of the fire is unknown. It was unclear whether anyone was injured in the fire.
DeLand Fire: Reaction to Florida Fires
Several people responded to the DeLand fire. “Yeah, it’s coming from near the water treatment facility, so the little dump next to it and the black smoke makes sense,” one wrote.
Another revealed the size of the fire, writing “I can see it coming from DeLeon.” DeLeon Springs and DeLand, both located in Volusia County, Florida, are about 8.2 miles or 13.2 kilometers apart.

One commented that it was at a “sewage plant”, while another added that the fire was actually “next to it”. One person expressed concern about the smoke, writing “Wondering what chemicals are in the smoke.” To which one person responded: “Junkyard…could say, metal, rubber, anything from old cars.”
The fire also prompted a person ask “What burned in Deland on the north side in 1792?” on the DeLand Community Page. Several people shared updates and reactions in the comments.
“The scrapyard on South Garfield Avenue,” one wrote, while another added, “Apparently the scrapyard in Westland is on fire!”. Someone else shared that the fire was affecting traffic flow, writing: “I was at the cemetery in Beresford and could hear explode. Traffic at Beresford is being diverted at the cemetery car park. “
Someone shared a photo of the smoke and wrote that they wondered what was burning.
Video from inside a car on the highway showed the extent of the smoke visible.
“Towards the north,” the person wrote. Another added: “I understand there was an explosion and a man was operating a crane very close to the explosion. Efforts are now underway to put out the fire.”
