CHENNAI: Outgoing CMK Stalin told TOI on Wednesday that the DMK will wait for TVK president C Joseph Vijay to form the government and “observe for six months without interruption”.Stating that the DMK does not want a constitutional crisis or another election soon, Stalin hoped that the new government would continue the programs launched by his government, besides fulfilling the promises made by TVK in its election manifesto.

“The new government should continue the free breakfast scheme for school children,” he said when asked what his top priority was. “And ‘Kalaignar magalir urimai thogai’ (a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 to women heads of households).” When pointed out that Vijay had promised to provide Rs 2,500 to women, Stalin said it would be difficult to fulfill the promise. “Like us, give them at least 1,000 rupees.”The DMK chief said his government has fulfilled 90 per cent of the promises made by the party in its 2021 manifesto, adding that some promises like ending NEET could not be fulfilled due to the Centre’s control. “In this election too, we only promised those things that we could deliver. I don’t think TVK can deliver on its promise (referring to six free LPG cylinders per ration card holder household every year),” he said, adding, “Senjaal Magizhchi (we will be happy if they do this).Stalin’s official residence has been receiving a steady stream of visitors since early Wednesday.
