Despite the claims, no shooting occurred near Vance’s motorcade. The Secret Service noted that the shooting occurred “minutes after” Vance’s motorcade passed through the area.
NewsNation’s Libbey Dean also noted on X, “Vice President Vance’s motorcade passed through the area shortly before the shooting near the National Mall, according to the Secret Service deputy director.”
The deputy director of the Secret Service said in a statement that there was no indication that the suspect intended to approach Vance’s motorcade. News of the shooting, however, caused Vance to worry.
“Not only praying for 47, but also praying for Vice President Vance,” one person commented. Another added: “Praying for Trump and Vance.” Another said “…Vance was shot down after his motorcade opened fire on the Secret Service.”

Secret Service Deputy Director Quinn said there was a “suspicious individual who appeared to be armed with a firearm.” Police identified the man who fired at them before trying to approach on foot, at which point they shot him.
The suspect was shot and later hospitalized, according to Quinn. A teenager was also hit by the suspect but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Quinn also noted that when agents believe a person is acting suspiciously, they see “visual traces of a firearm.” He also responded to questions about the attack possibly targeting President Donald Trump.
“I don’t know if it’s directed at the president, but we’ll find out,” Quinn said.
