Utpal Borah of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the election, polling a total of 96,582 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Sankar Jyoti Kutum by a decisive margin of 52,722 votes.In Guppur constituency, BJP candidate Utpal Bora defeated Congress MP Sankar Jyoti Kutum in a closely watched contest.Statewide, exit polls showed a strong showing for the BJP-led government, suggesting Himanta Biswa Sarma may remain as chief minister. On April 9, all 126 seats in Assam went to polls with a turnout of over 85%, one of the highest turnout in recent years.Voter enthusiasm was evident in both rural and urban areas, suggesting broad-based electoral participation.Gopur is one of the 126 assembly constituencies in Assam. It is a general category seat located in Sonitpur district, one of the nine parliamentary constituencies of Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency.In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, this constituency had 2,04,613 registered voters and 1,63,163 valid votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Utpal Borah won the seat with 93,224 votes.Congress candidate Ripun Bora came second with 63,930 votes and lost by 29,294 votes.In the 2016 Assembly elections, Gopur had 1,71,284 electors and 1,46,618 valid votes.The BJP’s Utpal Borah won with 85,424 votes, defeating the Congress candidate Monika Bora who polled 56,489 votes.
