What happened to Gene White?

A San Francisco police spokesman told The Athletic that Keion White was shot and killed at 4:06 a.m. in the 17th block of Mission Street in San Francisco. The shooting occurred during an argument between two groups. Based on the initial investigation, White is not believed to have been involved in that altercation.

Police rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery.

49ers release statement

The San Francisco 49ers confirmed the incident, saying: “Kion White was injured in a shooting incident in San Francisco this morning and was shot in the ankle. He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates in due course.”

Suspect arrested?

As of Monday evening, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. Authorities have not released any information about the suspect.

Who is Gene White?

Keon White was acquired by the San Francisco 49ers ahead of the 2025 NFL trade deadline after two and a half seasons with the New England Patriots.

San Francisco sent a conditional sixth-round pick to New England in exchange for White and a conditional seventh-round pick.

White appeared in nine games for the 49ers in the 2025 season, including two starts. The 27-year-old had 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
