NEW DELHI: Javokhir Sindarov produced a flawless performance to win the 2026 FIDE Candidates Championship on Tuesday, sealing the crown with a one-round stoppage and setting up a blockbuster world championship clash with D Gukesh later this year.The Uzbek grandmaster remained undefeated at the event at Cape St. George Hotel and Resort, displaying remarkable consistency in the elite arena. His defining moment was a clinical draw against Anish Giri, which sealed his qualification for the World Championship before the final round.

Zindalov began his journey with a first-round victory over Andrei Esipenko, setting the tone for the tournament. From there, he built momentum with a series of controlled performances, blending solid defense with timely offense. Even in tricky situations, Zindarov showed maturity beyond his years, ensuring he stayed on top.His ability to dominate his opponents has proven to be the deciding factor, whether through wins or crucial draws. A solid half-point run, including a draw with Matthias Bruebaum in the later rounds, put him firmly in control of the standings.With one round left to play, Zindarov’s lead was undisputed, underscoring his dominance in the campaign.
