Grok, the artificial intelligence robot for Elon Musk’s X platform, malfunctioned on Thursday, leaving thousands of users without access. Some users suddenly logged out of their accounts. We encountered a similar issue when trying to log in and use the platform. We tried to log in and saw an “Authentication failed” message.
“This email domain has been rejected. Please use a different email address. If you believe this is a mistake, please contact support@x.ai,” the message reads.
DownDetector, a platform that tracks online outages, showed at least 2,000 reports of Grok. Reports on X also surged. However, the Weibo site is working fine for us.
The company has yet to issue a statement.
The outage appears to be related to authentication and server-side outages, which may impact:
Login session
Account verification
AI chatbot response (Grok not loading or failing)
These issues are usually temporary and resolved by the platform.
Quick fixes you should try
If you’re logged out or can’t access your account, try the following steps:
1. Restart the application or browser
Completely closeX
Reopen and try to log in again
2. Check your internet connection
Switch between WiFi and mobile data
Refresh your connection
3. Clear cache (mobile users)
Go to app settings
Clear cache (Android) or reinstall (iOS)
4. Update the application
Make sure you are using the latest version of X
5. Reset password (if necessary)
If you fail to log in multiple times, try “Forgot Password”
Avoid multiple rapid attempts (may trigger lockout)
when it’s not your fault
If thousands of users are affected, this may be a platform-wide issue rather than something you can fix locally.
Signs of widespread power outage
You suddenly quit everywhere
Login works, but logout immediately
Grok is unresponsive or missing
Others reported the same situation on social media
What to do during a power outage
Wait (most outages resolve within minutes to hours)
Avoid repeated login attempts
Check status via platforms like DownDetector
