In a video posted on Instagram, Mamdani and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez noted that this is the last week for parents to register their children for the 2026-2027 school year. Oak In Spanish, children can participate in free 3-K and Pre-K programs if they turn three or four by 2026 new york city.

Mamdani said in an article Statement shared by the Mayor’s Office“Child care in New York City can cost more than $26,000 per year, a price that puts the burden of raising a family out of reach for too many people. When families enroll their children in pre-K and 3-K classes, we put that money back into their pockets, making the city more affordable. If you have a child who is three or four years old, now is the time to apply. The application deadline is February 27, at which time every family who applies will receive an acceptance letter.”

What are the 3-K and Pre-K programs and who is eligible to apply?

3-K and Pre-K are free early care and education programs offered by the New York City Department of Education. Three-year-olds can receive free, full-time education under the 3-K program before entering kindergarten.

Pre-K is preschool, for four-year-olds. The program provides free education to help children develop skills before formal schooling.

The AOC noted that any parent in New York City, regardless of occupation, income or immigration status, is eligible to enroll their child in the program.

How do you apply?

Parents can apply in the following three ways:

  • You can apply online by visiting the official website myschools.nyc
  • Parents can call 718-935-2009 for translation in more than 200 languages
  • Parents can choose to visit one of the five boroughs’ Family Welcome Centers

What is the process for accepting applications?

Applications are reportedly not being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. This means that everyone who applies within the allotted time is guaranteed to receive an offer of admission.

Meanwhile, the mayor’s office further said in a statement, “More than 75,000 families have applied for 3-K and Pre-K seats since applications opened on January 14. The administration has launched a citywide outreach effort to ensure families know how and when to apply. This includes at LinkNYC kiosks and the NYC Ferry By running multilingual ads, partnering with trusted community organizations to host application workshops and conducting direct outreach—especially to families who are hesitant to engage with the government—and coordinating with faith leaders, elected officials, and community organizations in targeted communities, shelter staff are also hosting application events for families in the shelter.”

DNPA Conclave 2026: India’s digital public infrastructure puts media at the heart of civic innovation

India’s digital news ecosystem is at a critical juncture, with technology, artificial intelligence, regulatory frameworks and audience expectations coming together to reshape the future of journalism. At the DNPA Conclave 2026, leaders from media, technology and policy discussed how trustworthiness, verified content and India’s expanding digital public infrastructure are redefining the responsibilities and opportunities of news organizations.MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan said technology can enhance journalism by amplifying credible and responsible reporting, stressing the need to prioritize verified information in an era of rapid digital change.“If you create the right content, technology will help you amplify the right message.”He stressed the public responsibility of publishers to ensure that verified and curated information takes precedence over unverified material circulated online.“Creating verified content is a social responsibility and a social necessity. Any verified and curated content obviously needs to have priority and more privileges than any other content that is randomly published.”The secret meeting also highlighted the convergence of pressures facing Indian media. Artificial intelligence adoption, regulatory recalibration, advertiser scrutiny and audience distrust are unfolding simultaneously, compressing change and reducing the space for trial-and-error strategies. Publishers now face structural decisions that will determine long-term direction rather than short-term growth, especially in a diverse market characterized by language diversity, uneven connectivity and significant youth participation.Speaking during the fireside chat on ‘Evolving Telecom and Digital Infrastructure Landscape’, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti added perspective on India’s digital foundation, highlighting how telecom and digital systems are changing access to information and connectivity.Vineet Nayar, founder and chairman of Sampark Foundation and former CEO of HCL Technologies, delivered a talk on “India’s Digital Identity Architecture,” explaining how India’s public digital infrastructure (covering governance, finance, and identity) is reshaping citizens’ expectations for access, authentication, and trust. For media organizations, this shows that credibility, inclusion and accessibility are no longer optional, but core to their role.India’s digital public infrastructure positions technology as a civic architecture, placing media at the heart of the broader digital citizenship ecosystem. Globally, India is seen as a model for integrating technology, governance and public interest, with media being both a player and a stakeholder in this transformation. The conclave, themed ‘Rewriting the Playbook for a Resilient Digital Future’, brought together leaders to explore how trust, innovation, artificial intelligence, regulation and sustainable growth will shape the next phase of journalism in India.

In an effort to give hundreds of people a second chance, Kuwait pardoned 539 people on the directives of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The decision, issued under Emir Decree No. (21) of 2026, allows some prisoners to be released immediately, while others will receive reduced sentences. The pardon reflects efforts to support rehabilitation and reintegration into society. Authorities say the goal is not just to shorten sentences. It aims to help those affected rebuild their lives, reconnect with their families and commit to lawful behavior. The process is overseen by the Department of Special Security Affairs and Correctional Institutions, which coordinates with relevant government agencies to complete the necessary legal and administrative procedures. Officials ensured the immediate release of those eligible for immediate release and implemented immediate sentence reductions. Authorities said the operation was the result of close cooperation between different agencies. They stressed that the initiative demonstrates the country’s ability to act effectively in implementing humanitarian and corrective measures. This pardon is intended to provide individuals and their families with the opportunity to turn over a new leaf, strengthen social stability and make a positive contribution to the wider community.

New Delhi: Former Captain Kumar Sangakkara He made no secret of his anguish after Sri Lanka’s defeat at the T20 World Cup, admitting “a lot of hurt has been felt on all sides” and warning the country could fall behind if urgent changes were not made. Sri Lanka’s campaign ended in heartbreaking fashion with a 61-run defeat to New Zealand in Colombo, leaving fans stunned and the cricketing fraternity searching for answers.Push boundaries with our YouTube channel. T20 World Cup: Sri Lanka withdraw from tournament; Pakistan’s hopes slim

“There’s a lot of hurt everywhere. Fans are shocked, disappointed and angry. Players are also injured badly. I’ve been in a similar dressing room. It will not be easy,” he wrote. He reminded players of the responsibility that comes with national duty, adding, “That responsibility comes from the pitch. Representing your country and people is a burden and a great privilege. “Sri Lanka’s exit is particularly painful because it comes with high hopes at home. After reducing New Zealand to 84/6, the home team lost control and Mitchell Santner and Cole McConchie restored the innings but their batting collapsed under pressure during the chase. The defeat ended a losing streak in the Super Eights and ended their semifinal hopes.Sangakkara stressed, however, that the problem was not just a defeat. In a strongly worded warning, he said Sri Lanka must evolve with the changing demands of modern cricket. “There is a lot of work to be done at all levels to correct course. When the world of cricket is moving so fast around us, we cannot do the same thing over and over again and expect different results,” he wrote. His most striking lines reflect his greatest fears about the future. “We haven’t adapted and the danger is irrelevant.”

For the past seven years, I have tracked consumer tech through constant shifts in hardware, platforms, and the way people actually use devices. Covering everything from budget gear to flagship hardware, I focus on what readers need to know, not on buzzwords or launch cycle hype. My expertise spans gaming laptops and chairs, high-performance PCs, gaming monitors, printers, smartwatches, earphones, headphones, Bluetooth speakers, tablets, and more, with a particular emphasis on how these products hold up in daily use. Reviews, explainers, buying guides, and news pieces all share the same goal: giving readers enough detail to make confident decisions without wading through fluff. Away from deadlines, I spend a lot of time gaming and watching films and anime, which naturally filters back into the work. Performance, comfort, display quality, and sound are judged the way players and viewers experience them, not just by lab numbers, which keeps my coverage grounded in real scenarios rather than just benchmarks.

Today’s kid-friendly smartwatches also include safety tools, health tracking and simple navigation that suit younger users. This list highlights the best smartwatches for boys that balance practical features, playful interactions and dependable performance for day-to-day use.

Factors to consider before buying a smartwatch for boys

  • Battery life: Longer battery life keeps the watch running through school days and playtime.
  • Fitness tracking: Steps, activity alerts and basic health metrics encourage movement and fun challenges.
  • Safety features: GPS tracking, SOS buttons or parent-controlled settings add confidence for both kids and parents.
  • Usability: Simple interfaces and kid-friendly menus make the smartwatch easy to operate.

Should a boy’s smartwatch focus more on safety or features?

A balanced smartwatch includes both safety tools like GPS tracking and SOS alerts are important, but fun features, activity badges and easy navigation make the device genuinely engaging for boys.

Do smartwatches for boys need GPS support?

GPS adds value by helping parents monitor location when outdoors or in unfamiliar places, especially during sports or travel.

New Delhi: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to begin a four-day visit to India in Mumbai on Friday, a visit seen as key to strengthening bilateral ties between New Delhi and Ottawa. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday shared details of Carney’s first official visit to New Delhi, including a meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the agenda for discussion between the two democracies.Carney’s visit marks a major diplomatic shift in Ottawa’s approach to India. Prime Minister Modi had earlier invited the Canadian prime minister after months of strained relations between the two countries, especially during the tenure of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Here’s what’s on the agenda:

  • According to the MEA, the two prime ministers will hold delegation-level talks at the Hyderabad House.

  • Prime Minister Modi and Carni are expected to review the progress achieved in various sectors under the India-Canada Strategic Partnership, building on previous meetings held in Kananaskis, Calgary (June 2025) and Johannesburg, South Africa (November 2025).

  • Leaders will also assess ongoing cooperation in key areas such as trade and investment.

  • Discussions covered energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research and innovation, and people-to-people relations.

  • The two sides will exchange views on regional and global developments. Prime Minister Modi and Carni will also attend the Indo-Canada CEO Forum later in the day.

  • The visit is intended to inject new impetus into bilateral relations, which have been severely strained by a diplomatic row over the killing of a Khalistani separatist in 2023.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to Israel, where he met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He will return to India and then hold bilateral talks with Carni.

Kuwait Cash Declaration: Kuwait forces tourists and residents to declare cash carrying more than 3,000 KD via Sahel App | World News

Kuwait requires tourists and residents to declare cash carrying more than 3,000 Kuwaiti dinars via Sahel app
Kuwait now requires residents and visitors to digitally declare cash exceeding 3,000 Kuwaiti dinars via the Sahel / Picture: File

Travelers arriving or departing Kuwait Now there’s one less thing to worry about at the airport. The General Administration of Customs and the Ministry of Transport officially incorporated the “Currency Declaration” service into the Sahel App. The move is an important step in Kuwait’s digital transformation journey, replacing old manual paperwork with a smooth, mobile-friendly process. Whether you are carrying large amounts of cash or valuable jewelry, you can now resolve your customs requirements before arriving at the terminal.

Kuwait launches new cash declaration rules

Kuwait has introduced a mandatory electronic cash declaration system that requires all travelers, including residents, citizens and tourists, to declare any cash over 3,000 Kuwaiti dinars (approximately US$9,700) when entering or leaving the country. Declarations must now be completed through the Kuwait Unified Government Services Platform Sahel App.The new system, launched by the General Administration of Customs, is part of China’s broader push for digital transformation and strengthening border financial supervision. The rules apply to all entry and exit points, including Kuwait International Airport, land border crossings and seaports. The authority clarified that the threshold of 3,000 Kuwaiti dinars applies to the total amount carried, whether in Kuwaiti dinars or the equivalent in foreign currency.

How does this work in Kuwait?

Under the new procedure, travelers carrying more than 3,000 Kuwaiti dinars must submit their declaration electronically through the Sahel app before arrival, before departure or at the border checkpoint. Once submitted, the system generates a digital confirmation that customs officials can immediately verify. This replaces the previous paper disclosure form and reduces manual processing time. Customs officials now have access to real-time data, allowing for faster verification and smoother passenger flow, especially during peak travel seasons such as summer vacations and religious travel. The Sahel App already hosts dozens of government services and integrates customs declarations into the same platform, simplifying compliance for Kuwaiti citizens and foreign visitors.

Why does Kuwait set a threshold of 3,000 dinars?

The limit of 3,000 Kuwaiti dinars complies with international financial transparency standards designed to combat money laundering, terrorist financing and illicit cash transfers. Many countries have established similar reporting thresholds to monitor the cross-border movement of large amounts of money. The amount, approximately $9,700, reflects a balance between allowing for normal travel spending and flagging unusually large cash flows that require oversight. Customs emphasizes that declaring cash does not prohibit the carrying; it simply ensures transparency and compliance with financial regulations. The move also supports Kuwait’s commitment to the international anti-money laundering framework and enhances the country’s financial reputation globally.

punishment

Kuwait Customs has made it clear that failure to declare amounts in excess of KD 3,000 may result in legal consequences. Depending on the circumstances, undeclared cash may be subject to temporary seizure, investigation, fines or further legal action. The authorities stress that the declaration process is simple and digital, leaving few excuses. Travelers found to have knowingly concealed funds may face increased scrutiny under financial and customs laws and may be prosecuted. The new system is designed not only to simplify procedures but also to thwart attempts to circumvent reporting requirements.

What does this mean for tourists?

For tourists visiting Kuwait, the message is simple: if you are carrying more than 3,000 Kuwaiti Dinars in cash, you must declare it digitally before or during entry. For residents and citizens traveling abroad, the same rules apply when leaving the country. This requirement does not limit bank transfers, card payments, or legally recorded funds. It only applies to physical cash above a specified threshold. With passenger flows stabilizing at Kuwait International Airport and land crossings, the digital system is expected to significantly reduce congestion and improve customs efficiency while maintaining financial controls.

wider context

The launch of the electronic cash declaration service reflects Kuwait’s broader efforts to digitize public services. Over the past few years, the government has expanded the scope of the Sahel platform to include citizenship services, licensing, documentation and administrative approvals.By moving customs declarations online, Kuwait joins other Gulf states in adopting digital border management tools to increase transparency, security and operational speed.

New Delhi: Union Minister Ashwini Vashno It said on Thursday that user consent must be mandatory for “all synthetically generated” content and called on digital platforms to take proactive measures to curb Internet fraud.Speaking at the 3rd Storyboard18 Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) Conclave 2025 in New Delhi, Vaishnaw said, “Platforms must be responsible for the content they publish. Gone are the days when platforms could say they were responsible for content. Those days are gone because platforms themselves have gone from being mere platforms to hosting the world. They have to take responsibility for the harmful content they host.”“Social media platforms must share revenue equitably with content creators…including remote creators, influencers, professors…must share revenue equitably with content creators,” Vishno said.“All synthetically generated content must have user consent… Platforms must take proactive action against online fraud,” he added.Emphasizing the importance of trust in a democratic system, Vishno said: “Human society is built on trust and institutions. When humans create social structures, they create so many institutions, starting from the family system, social identity, judiciary, media, legislative bodies and the democratic way of coming together and deciding things.”“All of these institutions are built on a basic premise. The premise of trust,” he noted.“That basically means the different sectors of society, the different institutions within society and the individuals who interact with those institutions. They believe institutions operate on certain trust-based principles,” he said.“Mutual trust defines the entire core of this institution,” the Union minister added.Vishno warned that this foundation is under pressure, “The way the world is evolving today, the core principle of trust is under threat. That threat comes from many different angles, and deepfakes can make you believe something that never happened anywhere.”“Intense spread of false information can lead to a sense of distrust that does not exist in real life. Synthetic photos and videos are created that have absolutely no bearing on reality. When all this content reaches common citizens. They start questioning the basic fabric of society. This is a huge threat and every country, including India, is now grappling with these issues,” he added.Earlier, DNPA Chairman and Manorama Online CEO Mariam Mammen Mathew, who opened the conclave, said the rapid transformation of artificial intelligence and digital ecosystems is fundamentally reshaping the way news is created, disseminated, discovered and monetized.Speaking on the subject, she said: “Media transformation in the AI era is at a critical juncture, as AI, evolving data governance norms, changing platform economics and changing audience behavior redefine digital journalism.”The 2026 DNPA Conclave brought together policymakers, media leaders and industry experts to discuss the rapidly evolving landscape of journalism, governance and digital innovation.
