Barcelona beat rivals Real Madrid 2-0 in a thrilling El Clasico on Sunday to claim their 29th La Liga title. The win confirmed Hansi Flick’s side’s second consecutive league title, but left Real Madrid without any major trophies this season.Barca just had to avoid defeat but attack from the start at Camp Nou. Marcus Rashford came on in place of injured youngster Lamine Yamar and opened the scoring with a brilliant free-kick.

Ferran Torres soon added another goal after a clever assist from Dani Olmo, sending the home fans into celebration mode.Real Madrid tried to respond but struggled to create enough clear-cut chances. Jude Bellingham had a goal ruled out for offside and Vinicius Junior’s strike was blocked by Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia. Madrid have also been embroiled in problems after reports emerged of a training ground scuffle between Fede Valverde and Aureliano Chuameni.Barcelona’s title win felt all the more exciting because coach Hansi Flick was still managing the game despite the recent death of his father. His side controlled the game with ease and almost scored more goals through Rashford, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski. After the final whistle, midfielder Frenkie de Jong said the title felt particularly special because it came at home against Madrid.“This title is even more special to win it at home against Madrid and now we have to enjoy it with the fans,” he said.De Jong also praised Barcelona’s performance this season, while admitting that the team has bigger goals.“We have always been the best team in Spain – of course we (also) want to win the Champions League, that is our goal. Next year we will have another chance,” the Dutchman added.Meanwhile, Madrid now face major questions over their future, with changes expected in the summer after another disappointing season.

U.S. President Trump will pay a state visit to China from May 13 to 15

This will be the first visit to China by a US president in nearly nine years.

The visit comes amid a protracted war between the United States, Israel and Iran, a global energy crisis caused by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and rising tensions between the two countries over a range of issues, including Taiwan.

On Sunday, Principal Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said Trump would arrive in Beijing on Wednesday night in what she called a “hugely symbolic visit.”

According to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post, Kelly said that the U.S. leader will attend a welcome ceremony and bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping on Thursday, followed by a visit to the Temple of Heaven and a state banquet.

The two leaders will meet again on Friday for a bilateral tea party and working lunch, she said, adding that the United States plans to host Chinese leaders for exchange visits later this year.

The two sides announced on Sunday that Vice Premier He Lifeng will go to South Korea from May 12 to 13 for trade negotiations with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant, which will be the last round of negotiations before Trump’s visit to South Korea.

Trump’s visit also comes as the U.S. president limits expectations for a trade deal on tariffs between the two largest economies.

A statement from China’s Ministry of Commerce said the talks would be “guided by the important consensus reached by the two heads of state during their meeting in Busan, South Korea and previous phone calls” and discuss “economic and trade issues of common concern.”

New Delhi: Daily wage earners will account for 31 per cent of all suicide deaths by 2024, the highest proportion in a decade (2015-2024), according to the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). A total of 52,910 daily wage workers committed suicide throughout the year, a sharp increase from the peak of 26.4% in 2022.Casual workers, which mainly include daily wage earners, constitute nearly one-fifth of India’s workforce and are the largest segment. The total number of suicide deaths in the country will increase to 170,000 in 2024, compared with 134,000 in 2015.

.

.

A comparative analysis of the number of suicide deaths since 2015 shows that daily wage earners, housewives and self-employed people continue to occupy the three major categories of “suicides by occupation”. However, the proportion of suicides among housewives and self-employed people has fallen over the past decade.Similarly, the proportion of suicide deaths among workers in the agricultural sector will decrease from 8.7% in 2016 to 6.2% in 2024. The agriculture category was introduced in the NCRB India Accidental Deaths and Suicides Report 2016.According to the NCRB report 2024, Tamil Nadu has the highest number of suicides among daily wage earners at 10,556, accounting for almost one-fifth of the suicides in the country, followed by Maharashtra (6,811), Telangana (5,745), Madhya Pradesh (5,299) and Chhattisgarh (3,413). Among Union Territories, Delhi reported the highest number of such deaths at 343.The report also stated that in 2024, 62.9% of suicide victims (about 1.100,000) had an annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh. Among the causes of suicide, “family problems” are still the primary cause, accounting for 35% of all deaths, followed by “disease”, accounting for 17.9%.The main ways of death by suicide are hanging (62.3%), taking poison (24.5%), drowning (4.4%) and being crushed to death by a moving vehicle or train (2.5%).

"Trying to ruin Erica's life.": Laura Loomer accuses Candace Owens of spreading 'broke' lies while harassing Erika Kirk
Candace Owens and Laura Loomer reignited their public feud on X with a series of deeply personal accusations. Loomer accused Owens of living a lavish lifestyle while lying about financial hardship, while Owens made scathing comments about Loomer’s mental health and public reputation. The argument then escalated when Loomer brought Erica Kirk into the fray, accusing Owens of targeting her and spreading lies about others online.

The online feud between Candace Owens and Laura Loomer took another ugly turn this weekend after both women made deeply personal accusations against each other on the X website. What started as criticism over finances and influence quickly turned into a public meltdown involving mental health accusations, lavish lifestyle accusations and new references to Erika Kirk.Within hours, the exchange attracted widespread attention online. Screenshots of the back-and-forth went viral as users dissected each accusation. Loomer accused Owens of pretending to be broke and living a lavish lifestyle, and Owens responded harshly about Loomer’s mental health and social status.

Candace Owens, Laura Loomer clash over wealth and ‘bankruptcy’ claims

The feud intensified after Laura Loomer publicly questioned Candace Owens over her financial complaints. In a lengthy reply posted on X, Loomer wrote:“You wear at least $2,000 worth of clothes on almost every episode, and you own two multi-million dollar homes in trust worth at least $12 million. As I’ve exposed, you and your husband have a car collection worth $800,000 to $1 million. How did you come so close to being “broke”?You need to stop lying. You live an extremely luxurious life.Do I need to know how many nannies and maids you have so people can see again how much you lie?You also wear a ring worth $70,000.The only person who can bankrupt you is your own mouth because you tell defamatory lies about others. “The post quickly attracted attention online, with supporters and critics alike retweeting and responding to it. Many users focused on the increasingly personal nature of the attacks rather than the original political differences between the two conservative commentators.

Laura Loomer drags Erika Kirk into Candace Owens feud to escalate

Candace Owens didn’t hesitate in her response. She replied:“Laura, it bores you, you know. You tried, but the public just wasn’t receptive. I’m sorry that people always took advantage of your various documented mental disorders. They thought you were a pest who would only do their bidding, and by the same token, they would never need to invite you into their social circle. Deep down, you knew that was true, and I’m sorry for that. You were neither accepted nor believed by anyone.”Loomer then escalated the feud again by accusing Owens of targeting Erika Kirk. She wrote:“What’s so annoying is your non-stop harassment of @MrsErikaKirk and the way you lie to others (including me) because you are unhappy with your life and the many things you have so you enjoy lying to others.Even now, your reply still lies. You need to get help for your condition. It seems to me that you clearly have narcissistic personality disorder, you act like someone with postpartum psychosis, and I don’t want to be part of your social circle. I live a fulfilling life with the people I love. You should have done the same thing instead of trying to ruin @MrsErikaKirk’s life even more than it was ruined by the assassination of her husband and the father of her children, which you are so happy about every day.

Uwell’s six-hit carnage: 200-6 a day, Dhoni’s special bat and promise

New Delhi: Goal 1: A single goal. Next eight balls: six sixes, 41 runs, and intense pulsed light History is rewritten. There was no softening of Uvir Patel’s game at Chebauk on Sunday night, only immediate destruction. The 26-year-old came on after Sanju Samson was dismissed in the fourth over when Chennai Super Kings were chasing 204 against Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026. What followed was one of the most explosive starts in IPL history.

Why Suryakumar Yadav will lose India T20I captaincy: All you need to know

Then, Avesh Khan scored his third consecutive top hit. Digvesh Rathi disappeared from the stands many times. Mohammad Shami was not spared. In the blink of an eye, Uwel’s singles tally has soared to 13-ball 50, the fastest in IPL history.Buried in that chaos is another remarkable record.Uvir became the first batsman in IPL history to hit six sixes in the first eight balls of an innings. While he faced just 8 overs, he had already scored 41 runs, easily surpassing the previous highest score (33 runs) after 8 balls in IPL history. An emotional Uvel celebrated the milestone with a handwritten note that read: “Dad, this is for you.”When he ended with 65 off just 23 balls, including eight towering sixes, CSK took firm control of the chase and eventually sealed victory by four balls. But to those who knew Uwell closely, this wasn’t crazy. This is a meticulous exercise. The wicketkeeper-batsman had warned his coach three days before the match.

“May I shine”

On Sunday night, he certainly made that point. “He said, ‘I’m going to play a major role in the first game of the day’. Very confident. But there was no idea at that time how much of a buzz it would create,” Uvir’s coach Prakash Patani told TOI.The aggressive right-hander only got a long spell in the CSK XI after Ayush Mhatre suffered a hamstring injury. Yet in just four games, the intent is clear.Even before the LSG massacre, the signs were there. In the first match against the Gujarat Titans, Uwel scored just 4 runs, but he bounced back with a brilliant performance of 24 off 12 balls, including two fours and two sixes, against the Mumbai Indians. The ensuing match against Delhi Capitals saw them score 9 for 17, which, while not a high score on paper, still included two towering sixes. No matter the situation, offense has always been Uwell’s motto. Renowned commentator Ian Bishop summed it up perfectly on the air during the DC game. “He is a no-nonsense batsman. That’s what CSK needs.”

Urvil Patel’s 200-a-day six-wicket obsession

The six-hit phenomenon that Uwell became was not just the product of chance or natural instinct, but the result of deliberate training, discipline and sharp focus heading into IPL 2026.Uwell has made power-hitting a core focus in his preparations for the 2026 IPL. Behind the scenes, the Gujarat batsman is training brutally around a staggering target: hitting 200 sixes a day.According to coach Prakash Patani, Uvir persevered and accepted the challenge at the PCCC Academy cricket ground near New Gunj Bazar in Palanpur, Gujarat.“He once hit 200 sixes in a day. This is his preparation for IPL 2026. Hitting one or two sixes is fine, but hitting eights consistently at this level is not easy. There’s a lot of hard work behind it,” Patani said.“He did not miss a single day and the process lasted for more than a month. He used to come at 5 am and practice till 1 pm or sometimes 2 pm with a short break in between. Most of the time, we did not even use the bowling machine. I bowled to him with the help of a robotic arm. He practiced only with the Kookaburra,” he added.“He is full of desire. He is determined to do well in this IPL. He always says, ‘mujhe mauka mila hai, kuch logon ko milta hai; main kuch alag karna chahta hoon’ (I get this opportunity from very few people. I want to do something different).”

Urvil Patel: Elite six-batsman

Statistically, he already is. In T20 cricket, one of the simplest ways to measure six-over efficiency is batting per six: essentially how many deliveries a batsman needs to clear the ropes. The lower the number, the more devastating a hitter is.Uwel hit 90 sixes in just 841 balls in T20 cricket, which gave him a staggering strike-per-six rate of 9.34. This puts him in elite territory.Among the leading T20 power batsmen, only a few have batted below the 10-per-6-ball standard:

Uwell No. 6 batting infographic

Urvil Patel, an elite six-batsman (AI-generated photo)

For context, Uwell is currently hitting sixes more often than Glenn Maxwell, Heinrich Klassen, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma. His six-hit frequency equates to 10.7 sixes per 100 balls: a figure that places him firmly among T20 cricket’s super-elite ‘six-batsmen’.Of course, sample size matters. Most of the names on this list have maintained those numbers across thousands of goals in multiple leagues around the world. But purely from the perspective of six-hit efficiency, Uvel is already rare.

Dhoni bat connection

Ahead of IPL 2026, Uvir also received a special set of bats, which included one from legendary India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.“He got a bat from Dhoni. It had a heavy underhand. He was practicing in the CSK nets with that bat. In fact, he even told Dhoni that the bat felt a bit heavy. Dhoni told him, ‘This will help you hit big sixes, practice with this’,” Patani revealed.“Uwell used this bat during training in the CSK nets, and later bought a custom-made bat with a slightly heavier bottom hand. This is the bat he used against LSG.”Uvir has always looked up to Dhoni as a wicketkeeper-batsman.“He was grateful to share the dressing room and the court with such a legend. Dhoni told him, ‘How you play is how you play. “Agar achha cricketer banna hai to hamesha zameen pe rehna’ (Play the way you naturally play. If you want to be a great cricketer, always keep your feet on the ground),” the coach said.

The ruthless six-batsman in domestic cricket

Uwell’s six-hit reputation didn’t start in the IPL. During the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he hit 28 T20 centuries, the fastest by an Indian and the second-fastest in men’s T20 cricket, including 12 sixes. A week later, he also hit a 36-ball hundred against Uttarakhand, hitting 11 sixes again. In Class A cricket, he has 41 centuries – the second fastest after an Indian Yusuf Patan. In fact, Uwel hit 29 sixes in six innings that season, surpassing the likes of Abhishek Sharma (7 for 18), Priyansh Arya (9 for 23) and Rajast Patidar (9 for 27). This is not a one-season miracle. The following season, Survival hit 18 sixes in 7 innings, but most notably, he ended the game with the second-highest strike rate among the lowest. He has faced 50 balls this season (243.75), trailing only Abhishek Shama’s 243.75.Uwell was first picked by the Gujarat Titans for a base price of Rs 20 lakh ahead of IPL 2023, but did not play a single match during his time with the team. He was eventually released ahead of the 2024 IPL auction.Despite a strong domestic showing, he surprisingly went unsold again in the IPL 2025 auction. His fortunes changed when Chennai Super Kings signed him for the 2025 season as a replacement for Vansh Bedi’s injury. He played three matches that year before being retained for Rs 30 lakh ahead of the 2026 IPL.Now, after a memorable night of six-hit destruction, CSK may have found what they were looking for: a fearless boundary hunter built specifically for modern T20 cricket.

‘Need to save foreign exchange in war crisis’: PM Modi pushes to reduce fuel use, energy consumption Gold buys, good for WFH

0

HYDERABAD/NEW DELHI Amid global energy supply disruptions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged people to use public transport and resume working from home to reduce dependence on petrol and diesel, mainly from imported crude oil, and save foreign exchange by avoiding overseas weddings and vacations and unnecessary gold purchases. The recommendations, seen as the toughest calls ever made by the Indian prime minister at an event in Hyderabad, come as the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz approaches its 75th day and has hit supplies of oil and gas, which the government uses to procure oil and gas from multiple sources, pushing up crude prices for Indian refiners for the third month in a row. Oil companies have not raised oil prices so far but are expected to do so in the coming days.

.

“Fgn Exchange needs to be saved in war crisis”

While some countries have adopted work-from-home and other options to reduce fuel consumption in addition to raising fuel prices, India has so far avoided such measures. High energy and gold and silver prices have pushed up India’s trade deficit and slowed export growth in recent months.Modi asked people to avoid non-essential gold purchases for a year and postpone non-essential travel abroad, and called for a return to COVID-era efficiency measures such as work-from-home arrangements in the national interest. He also urged businesses to choose shipping goods by rail and asked individuals to avoid unnecessary travel and ride-sharing and use electric vehicles.“If we make some small changes within a year, we can save a lot of foreign exchange,” he said.He also advised farmers to halve their fertilizer use and, in some cases, switch to natural farming amid a hit to fertilizer supplies.

PM Modi: Reducing edible oil intake by 50% can improve health

Invoking patriotism, the Prime Minister said it is not just about one living for the country but also about living responsibly and fulfilling one’s duty to the country during difficult times. He called for collective participation to help India cope with global economic disruption, supply chain challenges and rising prices caused by international conflicts.“The need of the hour is to restrain the use of petrol, natural gas, diesel and similar resources. We must use imported petroleum products only when required. This will not only save foreign exchange but also reduce the adverse effects of war,” he said. India relies on imports for nearly 90 per cent of its crude oil needs due to shrinking domestic production. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proposed reducing cooking oil consumption by 50%, which he says will improve health.

PM Modi calls for electric vehicles, solar pumps

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for collective participation to help India cope with global economic disruption, supply chain challenges and rising prices caused by international conflicts.“The need of the hour is to limit the use of petrol, natural gas, diesel and similar resources. We must use imported petroleum products only when required. “This will not only save foreign exchange, but also reduce the adverse effects of the war,” he said. As domestic production continues to shrink, India relies on imports for nearly 90% of its crude oil needs. The Prime Minister said his government’s initial focus was on achieving universal access to LPG among the poor and was now expanding affordable piped gas connections across the country. “By using these resources wisely, we can save a lot of foreign exchange next year. Our government is working tirelessly to address these challenges. In other countries, a bag of urea costs around Rs 3,000, but our farmers can get it for just Rs 300,” he added.Modi also asked people to support “Made in India” products, choose Indian alternatives for daily items like toothpaste, and advocated the use of electric vehicles and solar-powered pumps as an alternative to diesel pumps. In another proposal, Modi proposed reducing cooking oil consumption by 50%, which he said would improve health.

Delta Air Lines flight attendants clarify new snack policy, warns: ‘No trouble…’

Delta Air Lines has decided to cancel all food and beverage services on approximately 450 daily flights starting from May 19, a move that is expected to bring some changes to the in-flight experience for passengers on short-haul routes. Snacks, drinks or meals will no longer be available in Delta Economy and Delta Plus on flights under 349 miles, marking a significant expansion from Delta’s previous 250-mile cutoff.

Delta Air Lines comments on its new policy

The policy shift affects several high-traffic short-haul routes, including flights from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Delta Air Lines confirmed that customers flying 350 miles or more will continue to receive the airline’s full menu of snacks and beverages.

“Starting May 19, Delta will adjust its inflight beverage service to create a more consistent experience across the network. Customers flying 350 miles or more in Delta Comfort+ and Delta Home will now receive full beverage and snack service, while meal service will no longer be available on shorter flights, with the exception of Delta First Class, which always receives full service,” a Delta spokesperson told PEOPLE.

“Even on the few flights where there is no beverage service, our cabin crew will continue to remain visible, available and focused on taking care of our passengers, as they do on every flight.”

Stewardess explains

The latest changes have been Reddit postPhotos of a woman claiming to be a Delta Airlines flight attendant have taken center stage.

About a year ago, crews were expected to begin “final descent” procedures at an altitude of 18,000 feet, rather than the traditional 10,000 feet for many airlines, according to a Reddit post. This means that flight attendants must exit service early to ensure the carts are secure, the cabin is ready, and seats are in place well in advance of landing.

“Starting June 2, FA will begin final descent cabin preparations at 18,000 feet instead of 10,000 feet. Yes, we need to complete all final preparations by then. That means stowing laptops and carry-on luggage as well as upright seats and tray tables. Please don’t give us a hard time. Our turbulence damage has increased and they expect us to be seated and buckled before 10,000 feet. Thank you for your understanding,” the post read. However, it’s unclear whether the post has hinted at changes in snack policy.

On Reddit, some travelers mocked the move. “In other news, Delta will start flying at a maximum altitude of 17,999 feet,” one commenter joked. “With this cool trick, they can save a lot of money on Biscoff cookies.”

Crew Defense Policy

Many flight attendants have pushed back against criticism online, arguing that the earlier cabin closure was directly related to turbulence safety concerns.

One crew member said they had broken their legs due to severe turbulence during the flight before, while others explained that the turbulence was felt much more intensely at the rear of the plane during descent compared to the front.

Frequent fliers point out that on many flights, earlier preparation times may only shave about five minutes off cabin service. Still, the changes are becoming more apparent to travelers looking to refill their drinks or use their laptops for a few more minutes before landing.

Travelers may notice a different onboard experience

Delta has not offered meal service on flights under 250 miles since 2015, before the airline introduced a “quick service” model in 2017 for flights under 349 miles. The latest changes eliminate inflight service entirely on many routes.

After major victory, NDA eases into 2027 presidential election

New Delhi: bjpThe BJP’s overwhelming victory in a series of assembly polls and its first win in West Bengal with more than two-thirds of seats, coupled with its rising support in the Union House, will all but allow the party to decide the terms of next year’s presidential election after losing its majority in the Lok Sabha polls, raising questions about its dominance since 2014.Its overwhelming dominance in allied assemblies in large states such as Maharashtra, Bengal and Bihar, which are second only to UP in the presidential electoral college, will effectively offset the losses it has suffered in LS, which has seen its votes fall from 303 seats in 2024 to 240 in 2024. All elected members of parliament and parliament (excluding nominated legislators) make up the Electoral College. Parliament and assemblies have equal voting rights, but while each MP’s vote has the same value (700 votes in 2022), the weight of MLA votes is determined by the size of the population represented by their assembly (according to the 1971 Census). The number of votes for the Uttar Pradesh MLA is 208, which is almost 30 times that of the Sikkim MLA, who will have 7 votes by 2022. That number is likely to remain roughly the same next year because census numbers are a constant and so is the strength of parliament unless there is a vacancy. The presence of the J&K Assembly, which was dissolved in 2018 and was not part of the last presidential election, will be a factor, albeit a minor one.The drop in LS vote count reduced the BJP’s electoral college vote tally by 44,100 votes, while the 2022 Electoral College tally stood at 10,86,431 votes. A poor performance in the assembly polls could undermine the BJP’s authority to dictate terms, even with allies, as was the case in previous governments when the major parties (BJP or Congress) lacked a majority. After the LS polls, when the BJP relied on TDP and JD(U) to break through the 272-vote mark to gain a majority, the opposition parties were quick to call the two regional parties a “crutch” for their survival and predicted that the government would soon collapse, claiming that the results would be an inflection point in a strong run since 2014 and that the assembly polls would bring more grim news. For more than two years, the BJP has been doing pretty well.

It defied the odds to win Haryana comprehensively, and the NDA’s advantage in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly has surged to 237 from over 150 during the last presidential election, and from 125 to 202 in the 243-member Bihar Assembly. The party now has 207 MLAs as against 77 MLAs in West Bengal. Ahead of the presidential election next July, the most important is UP as it has over 83,800 votes in the Electoral College.
