Why Vijay’s ground test in Tamil Nadu is actually a survival test for the AIADMK

0

New Delhi: When tamil nadu Parliament meets at Fort St George on Wednesday to take a vote of confidence in the Chief Minister-designate Vijaythe looming question will be whether the actor-turned-politician has the numbers to survive his first major constitutional test. But the bigger political story may lie on the other side of the political spectrum. At least for now, the confidence vote looks less like a test and more like a decisive trial for the Vijay government. Artificial Intelligence ADMK — Political party founded by MG Ramachandran Once the face of anti-DMK in national politics, it now appears to be facing another internal rupture since the deaths of MGR and J Jayalalithaa.

A dramatic turn of events before the vote

Just the day before the field test, the crisis turned from whispers to open rebellion. The striking image of Vijay personally visiting the residence of senior AIADMK rebel leader C Ve Shanmugam in Chennai immediately fueled speculation that sections of the opposition were preparing for a split.About 30 provincial councilors from the rebel camp are believed to have been questioned PalaniswamiThe party lost its leadership after a crushing defeat in the April 23 parliamentary elections. The party won only 47 of the 164 seats it contested. Shanmugam, along with senior leader SP Velumani, accused party president Edappadi K Palaniswami of trying to seek an understanding with rival Dravida Munnetra Kazagam to prevent Vijay from coming to power.“In the recently concluded elections, we faced defeat. Not only in the recently concluded elections, but also in previous elections, we have suffered defeats. We request the General Secretary to convene a General Council meeting to discuss the reasons behind these electoral defeats and take further action for the benefit and development of the party. It has been suggested that we, as the AIADMK legislative party, should form the government with the support of the DMK. This proposal goes against the founding principles of our party as the AIADMK was formed to root out the DMK, which we consider to be an evil force in Tamil Nadu,” he said. The allegation is politically explosive not only because of the number of people involved but also because the AIADMK was formed to oppose the DMK. Any suggestion that the two Dravidian rivals are joining forces, even tactically, would undermine the party’s fundamental identity.

Numbers matter, but not in an obvious way

Parliament consists of 234 members, and 118 are needed to achieve a majority. TVK won 108 seats, which Vijay vacated after his elevation to chief minister, and its effective strength before the by-elections was 107. The Congress, VCK and Left allies have pushed his alliance towards the majority line, but only by a slim margin. This makes every abstention or rebellion significant. But Vijay’s own position is no longer the central suspense. Even before the next Test, he had achieved the most important political feat: he broke the 59-year-old duopoly of DMK and AIADMK to become the single largest force in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026

If he wins, he will form the first coalition government led by a newcomer from the Dravidian era. If he loses, he will still walk away as the leader who upended the state’s political order in his first election. The AIADMK does not have that luxury.

This is a referendum for AIADMK

For the AIADMK, the Lok Sabha test could become a public gauge of whether the party remains a coherent political institution or is entering its final decline. The party won 47 seats in the April 23 election, a poor performance by historical standards but still enough to remain relevant. However, if nearly 30 MLAs defy the leadership line, it will indicate that the real collapse begins not among voters but within the legislature.Edappadi Palaniswami has reportedly issued a strict whip to unite all MLAs. But in moments like this, the symbolism of resistance is as important as the legal consequences. Even if anti-defection proceedings ensue, the apparent split during the trust vote will mark the first major shift in political loyalty from the AIADMK to TVK.That’s why this ground test is so important. The question is not whether Vijay can get the extra five votes. It is about whether the AIADMK can prevent the loss of its own people to the new center of gravity.

Tamil Nadu assembly election results.

Why rebels matter beyond numbers

The rebel leaders were not fringe dissidents. Shanmugam and Virumani are among the party’s established regional power centres. Their defiance demonstrated dissatisfaction not only with tactical decisions but also with the direction of the party under Palaniswami.Their public argument is telling: supporting Vijay is seen as a return to the AIADMK’s original anti-DMK mission. This suggests that the rebels see TVK, not the AIADMK, as the legitimate successor to anti-DMK politics. In fact, they believe Vijay has become what the AIADMK used to be, the DMK’s main opponent.

shadows of old divisions

Tamil Nadu has seen AIADMK split before. After MGR’s death in 1987, the party split between factions led by VN Janaki and Jayalalithaa. After Jayalalithaa’s death in 2016, the OPS-EPS split almost tore it apart again. But those were inheritance battles. Both sides are still fighting for the same legacy. The current insurgency looks a little different. The language of the rebel camp – “New life for AIADMK”, “Amma rule should return”, while supporting TVK, is of great significance. The rebellion raises the possibility that sections of the party may feel that the AIADMK’s legacy itself is over and can be transferred to a new political formation.“The people’s mandate is not TVK’s but Chief Minister Vijay’s,” Shanmugam said. This language suggests that they see Vijay not as an outsider but as a possible continuation of the emotional mass politics once monopolized by the AIADMK.

DMK Extraordinary comfort

The DMK’s response also highlighted the unusual nature of this moment. It categorically denied any post-poll talks with the AIADMK and insisted it would act as the opposition. This means the DMK may be willing to allow the two rivals to weaken each other. If Vijay survives with the support of the rebel AIADMK, the DMK will play the role of opposition while watching the AIADMK implode. If Vijay fails, he will still be hurt politically in terms of governance, but the AIADMK still faces accusations of infighting hampering government stability. In either case, the AIADMK is likely to be the biggest loser.

The real battle is “two leaves”

For decades, the AIADMK’s ‘two leaves’ symbol represented an entire political ecosystem – MGR charisma, Jayalalithaa welfare populism and a deep-rooted anti-DMK identity. Vijay’s rise disrupted that.Like MGR, he is also a film star who entered politics and has a huge fan network. Like Jayalalithaa, he was quick to turn emotional appeals into electoral momentum. To many voters, he looks less like a new experiment and more like a revival of an old model of Tamil politics. That’s why the field test is more than just a constitutional exercise. This is a battle for legacy. If AIADMK MLAs object, abstain, or even waver openly, the symbolism will be unmistakable: the party founded by MGR may cede its political DNA to a movement led by another actor.Vijay may or may not prove his majority in Parliament by Wednesday night. But the more enduring question may be whether the AIADMK can prove that it still has its own game.

Salman Ali Agha fell in the next over, gradually slipping away and turning the momentum firmly in Bangladesh’s favour. From that point on, Rana was in complete control of the match. Despite losing points early on, his return had a devastating impact, erasing Saudi ShakirMuhammad Rizwan, Hassan AliNoman Ali and Shaheen Afridi. His performance included a sprint of 147km/h, beating Rizwan and underlining his reputation as Bangladesh’s emerging pace leader. Earlier, Bangladesh posted a strong total on the back of Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 87, setting a target for Pakistan that always looked challenging on the final day of play. Pakistan’s chase started cautiously after losing Imam-ul-Haq just before lunch, but Fazal’s counterattack briefly revived hopes. King Cobra Capitals: 10 Countries Where the World's Deadliest Snakes Live

The king cobra is one of the most frightening and scientifically fascinating reptiles on Earth. It is considered the world’s longest venomous snake, growing to over 18 feet in length and releasing powerful neurotoxic venom capable of killing large animals. Despite its deadly reputation, the species is shy by nature and generally avoids conflicts with humans. King cobras inhabit forests, bamboo forests, mangroves and wetlands in South and Southeast Asia, where warm temperatures and dense vegetation create ideal hunting conditions. Although exact population sizes remain difficult to measure, several countries are considered major strongholds for the species, supporting some of the most important king cobra habitats in the world.

Top 10 countries Have a large population of king cobras

IndiaIndia is considered one of the most important king cobra habitats in the world. The species is found in the Western Ghats, northeastern India, Himalayan foothills and the Andaman Islands. Dense rainforests, strong monsoon conditions and abundant game make these areas ideal for survival. The Agumbe rainforest in Karnataka is particularly famous and is often called the “King Cobra Capital of India”. Scientists at the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station have been tracking and studying king cobras for years, helping researchers better understand their movements, nesting habits and territorial behavior.India is also unique in that female king cobras have been observed building nests out of leaves and forest debris before laying eggs. This behavior is extremely rare among snakes.ThailandThailand has one of the most visible and stable king cobra populations in Southeast Asia. The species thrives in tropical forests, agricultural margins, wetlands and bamboo forests across the country.Thailand is famous for its wildlife rescue teams who frequently relocate king cobras found near villages and roads. In some areas of the country, trained handlers and snake conservationists work closely with local communities to reduce fatal encounters. The snake also appears in Thai folklore and traditional beliefs, and is often feared and respected.

IndonesiaIndonesia is home to a major population of king cobras because of its vast rainforest system spread across thousands of islands. The species is found in Sumatra, Java, Bali and Kalimantan in Borneo.Indonesia’s humid tropical climate provides ideal conditions for king cobras to prey on reptiles and smaller snakes. Dense jungle cover also helps them hide from predators and humans.Scientists believe that some island populations may exhibit physical and behavioral differences due to long-term geographic isolation.MalaysiaMalaysia is another prime habitat for king cobras, particularly within the forests of Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo. The species is commonly associated with rainforest ecosystems, riverbanks, swamps and mangroves.Malaysia’s rich biodiversity allows king cobras to hunt a variety of prey. They are considered apex predators of reptiles and play an important ecological role by controlling snake populations in forests. The species is often recorded in wildlife sanctuaries such as Taman Negara National Park, one of the world’s oldest rainforests.MyanmarMyanmar is an important link between India and mainland Southeast Asia for the king cobra’s range. Large expanses of forests and mountainous areas provide suitable habitat for this species.Although Myanmar remains poorly studied compared to neighboring countries, researchers believe its forests may contain large numbers of king cobras because many areas are relatively undisturbed. The country’s biodiversity hotspot is also home to several other venomous snake species, creating a rich reptile ecosystem.

BangladeshThe Bangladeshi King Cobra mainly lives in forest areas and hilly areas such as the Chittagong Hill Tracts and Sylhet forests.Sightings of this species are rare due to its secretive behavior, but occasional sightings have been reported near forest villages and tea plantation areas.Bangladesh’s tropical climate and lush vegetation provide suitable hunting conditions for snakes, but habitat loss remains a growing concern.NepalKing cobra populations in Nepal are mainly found in the warm Terai region and the foothills of the Himalayas. This snake is not common in cold mountainous areas, but survives well in subtropical forest and grassland ecosystems.King cobras in Nepal are often associated with protected areas and forest corridors connecting habitats in northern India. The species also has cultural significance in parts of Nepal, where cobras are associated with traditional religious beliefs and festivals.VietnamVietnam remains an important habitat for king cobras, especially in tropical forests and protected areas across the country.Vietnam has long faced challenges from the illegal wildlife trade, with king cobras sometimes targeted in snake wine, exotic meat markets and traditional medicine practices.Conservation groups warn that habitat destruction and poaching could threaten local populations if protections are not stepped up.CambodiaCambodia supports king cobra populations in tropical forests, wetlands and remote wildlife reserves.Snakes play an important role in Cambodia’s ecosystem by controlling the population of rodents and other snakes. Many king cobra habitats overlap with protected forests that are also home to elephants, clouded leopards and rare birds.Wildlife experts continue to study how deforestation affects reptile populations across the country.ChinaChina represents the northern edge of the king cobra’s natural range. This species is mainly distributed in southern provinces such as Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan and parts of Hong Kong. The warm, moist forests of southern China allow king cobras to survive in the cooler climate of the north.Chinese researchers are increasingly paying attention to the study of king cobra venom due to its complex neurotoxins and possible medical applications. Why the King Cobra is so uniqueUnlike true cobras, king cobras belong to their own genus called king snakes, which means “snake-eaters.” Its diet consists mainly of other snakes, including rat snakes, pythons, kraits, and even smaller cobras. This species is highly intelligent compared to many reptiles and is known for its strong defensive behavior. When threatened, it can lift nearly a third of its body off the ground, unfold its hood, and emit a deep growling hiss.King cobras are also one of the few snake species in which the female actively guards the nest until the eggs hatch.

Are king cobras endangered?

King cobras are currently listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Habitat destruction, deforestation, road accidents, illegal wildlife trade and human conflict continue to drive population decline across Asia.As forests shrink and cities expand, encounters between humans and king cobras become increasingly common. Wildlife conservation groups in India and across Southeast Asia are currently working to protect forest corridors and educate communities on how to coexist safely with one of the world’s most iconic snakes.

822/4 and 794 wins! Cricket match produces unreal scorecard

New Delhi: It was nothing short of a run-fest in Test cricket, producing figures that were almost unbelievable. A staggering 822 points were plundered by one team – not the combined total of both sides. Yes, only one team has breached the 800-run mark in what is known as one of the craziest matches in Zimbabwe’s domestic first-tier cricket. The match between Scorpions Cricket Club and Methane Lions turned into an absolute batting carnage with Scorpions Cricket Club posting a staggering 822/4 in the allotted 50 overs.

Even more surprising was the response from the Methane Lions, who could only respond with a score of 28/7 to hand the Scorpions an incredible 794-run win. After winning the toss, Scorpions captain Price Makaza elected to bat first, a decision that completely devastated the opposition bowlers. The star of the show was Winfed Mutende who smashed an impressive 203 off just 75 balls with a strike rate of 270.67. His knock included 23 fours and 13 sixes, turning the match into a brutal power-hitting display.

.

If that wasn’t enough, Takunda Madembo laid the foundation for a staggering 302 runs in 143 deliveries, hitting 50 boundaries and seven sixes before retiring after batting for 272 minutes. The carnage didn’t stop there. Gabriel Jaya scored an unbeaten 110 runs at 224.49 off just 49 balls, while Vincent Moyo scored a quick 78 off 39 deliveries.Scorpions Cricket Club ended up with a score of 822/4 in 50 overs with an incredible run rate of 16.44 per over.In the first innings, the pitch looked perfect for batting, but when the Methane Lions started chasing, the pitch suddenly turned into a bowlers’ paradise. Their winning percentage dropped to 28/7, with a defeat of 794 runs.

.

The currently recognized top scorer in Group A is Bihar, who posted 574/6 against Arunachal Pradesh in Ranchi during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed 190 off a total of 84 balls in that match. Before this unprecedented attack, only a handful of teams had crossed the 500-run mark in official 50-over cricket matches. Tamil Nadu posted 506/2 against Arunachal Pradesh in 2022, while England posted 498/4 against Netherlands in the ODI match in the same year.Other huge totals like Surrey’s 496/4, England’s 481/6 against Australia and Mumbai’s 457/4 were once considered shocking batting efforts. Now, Scorpions Cricket Club takes scoring into a completely different dimension. Their run rate of 16.44 per over is almost double the run rate of most record-breaking one-day scores.

Lure’s convictions in Connecticut date back about 30 years. He has already served time for the crime. Lawrence claimed the investigation began after a former employee reported the restaurant to authorities, claiming there was a gun inside, a violation of Luhr’s parole.
