West Bengal chief secretary sends compliance letter to EC; FIR against four police officers

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Secretary Nandini Chakravorty on Tuesday informed the Election Commission that the commission had partially complied with its instructions to the state government, including filing of FIRs against four officials for breach of data security and suspension of Basirhat Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO), within the deadline of 5.30 pm on February 17 set by the poll panel. However, the directive issued by the EC to Chakravorty on February 13 to cancel the transfer orders issued by the state government to three electoral roll observers – Aswini Kumar yadav, Randhir Kumar and Smita Pandey without prior consultation with the poll panel has not been complied with. Also, the state government is yet to send proposals for appointment of Returning Officer (RO) and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) as per the criteria laid down by the Election Commission.

The norms require them to be officers at the level of sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), sub-divisional officer (SDO) or revenue department officer. Currently, only ROs in 67 of the 294 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in the state and EROs in 68 ACs are at the SDO/SDM level. Sources in the European Commission, which on Tuesday confirmed receipt of the compliance letter from the West Bengal chief secretary, told TOI that the commission, which is currently on a visit to Assam, “will review the letter once it returns here”.Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal posted on X on Tuesday that he has suspended three micro observers based on the reports of the district electoral roll observers appointed by the Election Commission. “Electoral roll micro-observers commissioned by the Electoral Commission must perform their duties diligently and must not outsource/delegate their work to anyone else or face the consequences,” he posted. On Sunday alone, the European Commission summarily suspended seven professional qualifications in the state, citing “neglect of duty.” In a meeting with the West Bengal chief secretary last week, the EC asked the state administration to comply with its directives on payment of honorarium to BLO, appointment of suitable SIR/poll-related officers, revocation of unilateral transfer of roster observers and registration of FIR against erroneous officers latest by 5.30 pm on February 17.However, the deadline of 5.30 pm on February 17 set by the EC does not relate to the gratuity to be paid.

'On the vindictive instructions of Asim Munir': Family claims Imran Khan suffered 'unimaginable abuse' in prison; supporters protest

former prime minister of pakistan Imran KhanThe family claimed he suffered “unimaginable abuse” in prison and demanded better medical facilities for him. This comes after Khan recently told a visiting lawyer that he had lost around 85% of the vision in his right eye due to an alleged lack of medical care.“On the vengeful instructions of Asim Munir”Khan’s sister Noreen Niazi claimed that the former Prime Minister was under the guidance of “Asim Law” and his right eye will face irreversible damage. She claimed Khan had been diagnosed with retinal vein occlusion. “Imran Khan, a global celebrity, philanthropist and former Prime Minister of Pakistan, suffered unimaginable abuse in jail under the provisions of the Asim Act and now faces irreversible direct consequences in his right eye,” Imran Khan’s sister Noreen Niazi said in a post on X, referring to Defense Forces Chief Marshal Asim Munir.“The deplorable conditions of the jail had a severe impact on his health, resulting in devastating effects on his eyes and he is now diagnosed with retinal vein occlusion. This was not just negligence. This was an act of willful cruelty, executed through the evil and conniving master plan of General Asim Munir. Imran Khan’s due treatment was carried out inside a prison in deplorable conditions under the vindictive instructions of General Asim Munir,” she added.Noreen added that given the nature of Khan’s eye disease, in which he has lost 85 per cent of his vision, it was “simply impossible in a prison setting” to receive appropriate treatment.“Our only constitutional and legal demand is that Imran Khan be immediately shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for treatment under the supervision of his personal doctor,” she demanded.“You (Munir) declared yourself the head of the Muslim armed forces, quoted Quranic verses in your speeches, but you refused to abide by them. The entire country woke up and the world was watching this brutal, inhumane and despicable treatment by Imran Khan. This raises concerns about Imran Khan’s legal rights; rather, it underscores the seriousness of the lawlessness currently prevalent in Pakistan under illegitimate and un-Islamic rule. It represents a profound test of your faith, your command and the judgment you are about to make,” Noreen said.Meanwhile, Khan’s close aide Zulfi Bokhari said the former prime minister told his wife, Bushra Bibi, on Tuesday that he remained deeply concerned about his eyes.“His first priority is to hold an immediate emergency meeting with his personal doctors, Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Asim. Let’s put politics aside for now and focus only on this extremely reasonable request,” Bokhari said.PTI cuts Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province from rest of PakistanMeanwhile, Pakistan’s opposition coalition continues a sit-in in Islamabad demanding better medical facilities for jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The sit-in was led by the Tehreek-e-Insaf Pakistan (TTAP), a coalition formed last year to protest against the country’s constitution.Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is its main force, and the alliance is led by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, a Pashtun tribal leader in Balochistan who is also the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly. The group launched protests on Friday at two locations in Islamabad, including near the parliament building and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Palace, the official building of the provincial government in the capital.Protesters vowed to continue the sit-in until Khan is transferred to a private hospital for specialist treatment. The PTI, which has cut off Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the rest of the country through road blockades, demanded that Khan be immediately shifted to a hospital and his doctors be allowed to see him.Former cricket captain appeals to Pakistan government over Khan’s careMore than a dozen former international cricket team captains also issued a statement calling on the Islamabad government to grant him “adequate” medical treatment. The former cricket captain “respectfully” urged Pakistan to “ensure that Imran Khan receives immediate, adequate and ongoing medical care from a qualified specialist of his choice”.The campaign is led by former Australia captain and contemporary of Khan Greg Chappell.“Khan shall have fair and transparent access to legal proceedings without undue delay or obstruction,” the statement said.Other signatories include Michael Atherton, Michael Brearley, Nasser Hussein With David Gower (England), Alan Border, Ian Chappell, Belinda Clark, Steve Waugh As well as Kim Hughes (Australia), Clive Lloyd (West Indies) and John Wright (New Zealand).Government rejects chargesInterior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told the media that the government had no intention of “politicizing” Khan’s health issues, while accusing the opposition of doing the same.“The medical report also came out yesterday and everything is clear. Neither we nor the government want to politicize the matter,” he said.He also criticized PTI’s outrage over Khan’s health condition.“It would be extremely inappropriate and especially misleading to hold a program like this,” the minister said. The government refuted the allegations by Khan’s family and said a two-person team of doctors who examined the former prime minister concluded that his vision in his right eye without glasses was 6/24 parts, while his left eye measured 6/9.However, after wearing corrective glasses, partial vision improved to 6/9 in the right eye and 6/6 in the left eye. They also reported less swelling and thickness reduction in the right eye from 550 microns to 350 microns, which they reported as a sign of improvement. The doctor also recommended the use of eye drops in both eyes and advised the PTI founder to undergo two more eye tests.Pakistan’s Supreme Court has requested a report on Khan’s living conditions in Adiala prison near Rawalpindi in connection with a case that has been pending since 2023.Authorities had previously confirmed that Khan underwent a 20-minute medical procedure at the Islamabad Government Hospital in January, but gave no other details.

Interim Head Chasing Headlines: Jett Malani on Yunus' NE Remarks

New Delhi: Muhammad YunusIn his farewell speech as chief adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government, he mentioned the northeastern states without acknowledging them as part of India, prompting harsh criticism from a Bharatiya Janata Party official, Mahesh Jethmalani, who said the country he led looked increasingly “out of control”.“Bangladesh should have serious statecraft. Instead, it has a headline-seeking temporary figure who sees India as its backbone. The chameleon of Soros’s lackey is called Yunus,” the senior advocate said. He slammed Yunus’ televised address to the nation on Monday, calling it yet another unwarranted sermon against India.

Yunus mentions India’s ‘seven sisters’ in Brexit speech, praises Bangladesh’s ties with China

BNP chief Tarique Rahman was sworn in as Bangladesh’s prime minister on Tuesday, marking the end of the Yunus-led interim government that came to power after the collapse of Sheikh Hasina’s government following violent protests in 2024.“The headline-seeking leader added the familiar sovereignty/dignity drama to his televised address and slyly mentioned northeastern India and the seven sister states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura without calling them part of India,” Jeetmalani said. “When you can’t govern, you resort to grandstanding. When you can’t stabilize your country, you try to create an external villain — preferably a neighbor who actually makes a difference.”Instead of being elected, Yunus fomented a precarious interim position, and the Bangladesh he leads has since looked increasingly unstable, he said. Jeetmalani said, speaking as if he were Bangladesh’s eternal conscience, the irony was almost comical.“He will be remembered only as a hopeless arrogant whose ideological transformation was the answer. One day, he behaved like a global icon; the next, he was a local strongman, using the same old innuendo to win applause. This is what happens when your politics is sustained through networks and patronage rather than empowerment and performance,” he said.

“Hi Richie, Jeffrey asked if you could FedEx his painting of the Massacre of the Innocents to the ranch. It’s a big 9’x9′ canvas that we rolled out for him to see over the entrance as they were killing the babies. He wants to use it on the ranch and would like you to FedEx it on Wednesday?” one of them said Email newsletter About this painting:

another e-mail Epstein’s assistant, Sarah Kellen, wrote in a letter to Epstein himself: “Regarding the Massacre of the Innocents… See below… Do you still want to proceed with this painting? Measures 9 feet x 9 feet 5 inches for $1,999.”

However, among previously unsubstantiated claims, the term “infanticide” has attracted particular attention online. Cannibalism and sacrificial rituals This was directed at Epstein. One page on X noted, “The worst Epstein emails yet.”

other additional “It’s easy to dismiss this as morbid symbolism, but the email also offers a rare, unfiltered look into the mind of an abuser: They normalize horror, turn real harm into decoration, and then hide it in plain sight. Which do you think is worse, the act itself or the mindset it reveals?”

Another one question “Why is the Department of Justice dismissing this as non-evidence? Investigate!”.

What you need to know about the massacre of innocents

Epstein commissioned a copy of “The Massacre of the Innocents,” an original painting by Dutch Golden Age painter Cornelis van Haarlem. This 1591 painting shows a terrifying moment in the Nativity narrative in the Gospel of Matthew.

On their way to visit the baby Jesus, the Magi told King Herod that they were looking for the newborn King of Judaea. Fearing that he would be deposed by the future king, Herod ordered the Roman soldiers to kill all male infants under the age of two in Bethlehem. The painting was popular among the old masters, and the horrific scene also appears in works by Peter Paul Rubens and others.

The painting Epstein wanted to commission a copy of is part of the collection of the Mauritshuis in The Hague. It is on long-term loan to the Franz Hals Museum in Haarlem, the Netherlands. Epstein wanted to buy the painting from Ocean Bridge Group, which sells reproductions of the painting.

he wants for his artwork Zorro Ranch In New Mexico.

Why painting requests are controversial

As rumors swirled around Epstein, the term “baby-killing” gained traction. There were accusations of cannibalism and “ritual sacrifice”. terms like ‘cream cheese‘ and ‘pizza” only causes conspiracy theorists to double down on these claims.

However, these crimes remain unproven and Epstein was never charged or tried for any such crimes. Epstein’s Zorro Ranch is also now in the spotlight as many women and girls say they were sexually abused at the ranch. Now, New Mexico has approved a “truth commission” to investigate the allegations.

“Exclusively for beautiful Russian girls”? New documents accuse Epstein of ties to Hamptons nightclub promoter

0

The latest documents released by the Ministry of Justice show Jeffrey Epstein Making Hampton the main center of his “grooming” operations. Epstein frequently took young women to the exclusive enclave for “girls’ weekends,” using the local wealthy network and lavish parties to build trust and facilitate exploitation, documents allege. The documents include emails suggesting Epstein coordinated trips, parties and weekend stays in the Hamptons through close acquaintances. A 2020 FBI document cited in the filing said an informant said Epstein had close ties to the area and would “seduce underage girls for him.”Epstein’s Hamptons circle also included Mark Baker, a nightclub owner and promoter in the Hamptons and New York City who appears about 50 times in the documents. In a 2010 email introducing Baker to Epstein, a redacted reporter wrote that Baker wanted Epstein to organize weekly parties at his clubs in New York and the Hamptons “just for beautiful Russian girls,” adding, “I thought it would be a great way to meet new people.Later emails showed that Baker arranged a face-to-face meeting with Epstein following the introduction. According to his website, Baker now lives in Bali, Indonesia. Some of the emails sent directly to Epstein mentioned unspecified gatherings in the Hamptons but did not indicate illegal conduct. In a May 2016 message that included a photo of girls eating on a Montauk sidewalk, an edited sender wrote: “We had pink t-shirts for us that said ‘Girls Weekend.'” Many thanks to Jeffrey for making our time the best. “The emails also show Epstein was coordinating arrangements with contacts in the Hamptons, including millionaire restaurateur Stephen Hansen. In one exchange in 2017, Hanson agreed to let a woman who did not appear to be a minor spend a weekend at his property in the Hamptons. Hanson, who was about 66 at the time and was mentioned nearly 3,000 times in the files, was not accused of wrongdoing in the letters.Other posts show Hansen discussing making “beef jerky,” inviting women to his Hamptons restaurant and asking Epstein if any of them would go to the opera with him after he “blowed up” his wife. The documents also show Hansen had previously visited Epstein’s private island, Little St. James.

PAK vs NAM: Pakistan face another must-win situation and need to beat Namibia to qualify for Super Eights
Pakistan cricket team (AP Photo)

The flight from Colombo to Chennai is about to take off in the afternoon, and many Pakistani fans are waiting in line. Two flights – one to Lahore and the other to Karachi – are scheduled around the same time and you can eavesdrop on their conversation. It’s mostly about Pakistan’s chances and India’s capabilities. When TOI asked some of them how they felt about the rematch against India later in the match, some of them said: “Allah, ho jayega… if that happens, we will come back again.”Push boundaries with our YouTube channel. Subscribe now!Such is the cautious optimism of fans. But for that to happen again, Pakistan must do a lot of things right, starting with winning the match against Namibia in Colombo on Wednesday. If they win, or even if they are eliminated, they will advance to the Super Eights and take on strong squads from New Zealand, Sri Lanka and England. But if they lose, they will be out and the US, who already have a better net run rate than Pakistan, will advance along with India.

What is the Naqvi issue inside Pakistan camps?

Despite a gloomy atmosphere hanging over Pakistan after Sunday’s loss to India, there is a glimmer of hope. It was a show by two spinners, Usman Tariq and Saim Ayub, who bowled a little bit of everything. Left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz was also pretty good, although Shadab Khan and Abrar Ahmed were below par. There is nothing on the Namibia side that can trouble Pakistan. But given Pakistan’s ability to self-destruct, you can’t take anything for granted.Tariq was Pakistan’s best bowler against India and he tried to stay as positive as possible. “It’s difficult if you don’t correct your mistakes. We just had a conversation about where we made mistakes. We will work hard to resolve these issues and look forward to the upcoming matches so that we do not repeat the same mistakes,” Tariq said on the eve of the SSC match. It was a 3pm match, the pitch was slow and the best thing for Pakistan would be to bat first if they won the toss. In a pressure game, it will be important for them to make runs on the boards and put pressure on their opponents with spin balls.Even though Pakistan’s batting performance wasn’t great, they should make some impact against Namibia. The real concern for the 2009 champions, though, is the form of their best pacer, Shaheen Afridi. He was very disappointing against India and the Namibia game could be the right platform for Pakistan to try Naseem Shah or Salman Mirza, if not both. However, Tariq defended Afridi and said the pacer was not under “any special pressure”. “We just want to execute our plan. Performance depends on the day. If the bowling team misses their lines, we will focus on those things and try to improve in the next game,” Tariq said. It was absolutely necessary for Tariq’s colleagues to do so on Wednesday in order to stay alive at this World Cup.

During the visit, India and France upgraded their relationship to a “special global strategic partnership” and pledged to expand cooperation in defence, trade and critical minerals. Both leaders described the relationship as a “force for global stability” amid rising geopolitical uncertainty. After the talks, the two leaders also held a virtual inauguration ceremony for Airbus’ assembly line for the production of H125 helicopters in Vimaggarh, Karnataka, a move expected to strengthen India’s aerospace manufacturing ecosystem. The two sides signed 21 agreements and documents aimed at expanding cooperation in areas such as critical minerals, defense, high technology, renewable energy and health care.Major agreements include a defense cooperation agreement and a joint venture between Bharat Electronics Ltd and Safran to produce Hammer missiles in India. Another agreement provides for the mutual deployment of officers between the Indian Army and the French Army.Prime Minister Modi received Macron hours after the French president arrived in Mumbai for a three-day visit to India. “The world is going through a period of uncertainty. In this environment, the India-France partnership is a force for global stability. We are combining France’s expertise and India’s scale,” Prime Minister Modi said in a media statement. He described France as one of India’s oldest strategic partners and said both sides had injected “unprecedented depth and vitality” into the relationship. “Based on this trust and shared vision, today we are establishing our relationship as a ‘Special Global Strategic Partnership’,” Prime Minister Modi said, adding that such partnerships support global stability and progress.Speaking about the helicopter project, Prime Minister Modi said the assembly line reflected deep mutual trust. He noted that the helicopter can operate at extreme altitudes, including near Mount Everest, and will be exported around the world. “In other words, the Indo-French partnership has no borders; it can stretch from the deep sea to the highest mountains,” he added.

NASA scientists issue stark warning about 15,000 undiscovered asteroids that could destroy cities: ‘Keeping me up at night’

one NASA Scientists issue chilling warning Earth. The planetary defense expert said the Earth has no way to defend itself against up to 15,000 undiscovered near-Earth asteroids, all of which have the potential to destroy entire cities.

One expert believes that even if we could detect these
One expert believes that even if we could detect these “city-killer” asteroids, we currently lack the defenses to deal with them. Images used for representational purposes. (no splash)

NASA planetary defense officer Kelly Fast said what keeps her “up at night” is “asteroids we don’t know about.” daily star.

The expert went on to say that it’s not the “big ones” that worry her because they know “where they are.” Likewise, small particles hit the Earth “all the time” and there is no need to worry. Experts stress that the roughly 500-foot-long rocks are worrisome because they are small enough to skip detection but large enough to cause serious damage.

according to times of londonThe scientist warned that these medium-sized asteroids, known as “city killers”, could cause “regional devastation”.

What should we know about “city-killer” asteroids?

According to Fast, approximately 25,000 such asteroids pass near our planet, and we only know the locations of 40% of them.

She added that these objects are difficult to spot “even with the best telescopes” because their inconvenient size orbits the Sun alongside the Earth, preventing them from reflecting any amount of sunlight.

Scientists plan to launch the Near-Earth Object Surveyor space telescope next year to solve this problem. This uses heat signatures to spot early dark asteroids and comets hidden beyond Earth.

Fast states flatly that her responsibility is to “find asteroids before they find us” and to potentially develop methods to “find asteroids before they find us.” However, detection is only part of the problem. Currently, humans lack the defense capabilities to stop “urban killers”.

“We don’t have a way to actively deflect an asteroid right now,” said Nancy Chabot, director of NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirect Test (Dart). In this 2022 test, NASA crashed a spacecraft into Dimorphos’ mini-satellite at 14,000 mph, proving they could knock an asteroid out of orbit. However, Chabot noted that these conditions would be difficult to replicate for the Urban Killers because they do not have deflectors “on call at the drop of a hat.”

Chabot added that she doesn’t see space agencies investing in such measures because they “lack the funds to keep planetary defenses on standby.”

“We can be prepared for this threat. We can be in very good shape. We need to take these steps to do that,” she noted.

This is because people are worried that asteroids will become city killers YR4which has been on our radar since 2024, now has a 4% chance of hitting Earth in 2032.
