Onslow County burns under control North Carolina Residents in Wilmington, New Hanover County, saw large amounts of smoke. Like New Hanover County, residents in Pender County have reported seeing smoke. Eastern Pender County appears to be the most affected.
Onslow County officials confirmed two fires were burning and smoke was drifting into parts of Wilmington and Pender counties.
The Pender County Fire Department confirmed that the smoke entering the county came from fire In Onslow.
Residents in Wilmington were panicked by the fire, with many posting on social media about the thick smoke in the air. However, authorities assured the smoke came from controlled combustion and there was no cause for concern.
New Hanover County is located on the Atlantic coast and borders Pender County to the north. Onslow County is located in northeastern Pender County. As a result, smoke entered Wilmington from Pender County.
