Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Vijay on being sworn in as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu and said the Center will continue to work with the state government for the benefit of the people.PM Modi posted onTVK Chairman and Legislative Party leader C Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in a colorful ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday.Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar swore in secrecy to Vijay during the event.Apart from Vijay, nine other leaders from TVK N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, KA Sengottaiyan, KG Arunraj, P Venkataramanan, R Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, TK Prabhu and S Keerthana were sworn in as ministers in the party’s first cabinet. Before the ceremony, Vijay welcomed Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at the venue and introduced him to the minister-designate.The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections marked a major political shift in the state, with TVK winning 108 of the 234 seats in the first election. The result also marks the first time two major Dravidian parties have been voted out of power at the same time.Although TVK itself failed to secure a majority, the party secured support from the Congress, CPI(M), CPM, VCK and IUML, all of which had been part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance.Vijay, popularly known as “Talapati”, attracted huge crowds during the campaign and some observers compared his political rise to that of former chief minister Ramachandran. Tamil Nadu has a long history of actors entering politics, and Vijay’s emergence is often seen as the next big chapter after Vijayakanth.
