Why Rob Reiner’s son wants $1.5M trust fund during murder trial; key details explained
Nick Reiner, son of Hollywood film producer Rob Reiner Photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner is seeking money from a family trust while awaiting trial for her parents’ murders.

The 32-year-old recently filed a petition in Los Angeles County court seeking access to funds he said were promised to him years ago through a trust created by his parents, according to court documents cited by The Associated Press.
Nick Reiner He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder after authorities accused him of stabbing Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner to death in their Brentwood home in December 2025.
The newly filed petition argues that the trust dispute is separate from the criminal case and says Lehner should still have access to funds allocated to him.
“Nick loved his parents and is devastated by their deaths,” the documents said, according to the Associated Press. “Like anyone charged with a crime, Nick is presumed innocent and is entitled to defend his defense using resources that are lawfully his own.”
What the Trust Fund Petition Claims
According to the documents, Rob and Michelle Reiner are raising money for their children Nick, Jack and Romyin the early 1990s.
Nick Reiner was supposed to receive half of his trust fund at age 30 and the remaining amount at age 35, his attorneys claim. However, he never received the initial payment, and the trustee continued to delay withdrawing the funds, the petition states.

The document reportedly said the trust contained at least $1.5 million in assets, but attorneys claimed they had not yet received a full account of the trust’s value.
Reiner’s legal team also argued that he currently has no other way to pay for attorney fees or basic expenses while in custody.
Attorney Alan Jackson may return
The petition further revealed that prominent defense attorney Alan Jackson may rejoin Renner’s legal team if the trust is funded.
Jackson initially represented Lehner after his arrest but later withdrew from the case for undisclosed reasons. Jackson said his firm remains “ready, willing and able” to resume representing Lehner if funding issues are resolved, according to the filing.
TMZ also reported that Reiner claimed that his siblings Jake and Romi initially agreed to help fund Jackson’s representation, but later backed away from the arrangement.

Murder case remains under wraps
The criminal proceedings continue to move slowly, and Renner is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing in September.
Authorities have released few details publicly about the killing, and investigators have not revealed a possible motive. The court order also blocks public access to much of the autopsy information.
Rob Reiner is best known for directing films including “Stand By Me,” “When Harry Met Sally…,” “A Few Good Men” and “This Is a Spinal Tap.” He has been married to Michele Singer Reiner for 36 years.
