New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a petition seeking registration of FIR and probe against SIT Himanta Biswa Sarma The petitioners were asked to file a case in the Gauhati High Court. The top court questioned why the petitioner did not move the Gauhati High Court and said its authority should not be “impaired”. Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vikul Pancholi said all parties will be asked to exercise restraint and stay within the bounds of constitutional ethics. The judges also noted that filing petitions before elections is “becoming a trend.” “This is a disturbing trend and all questions end here. We have deprived the HC of its environmental and commercial litigation rights,” the bench said. Earlier, the Assam unit of the BJP posted a video on X showing Sarma allegedly pointing a rifle at two people, one of whom was wearing a skullcap and the other with a beard. The video was later removed due to backlash.
