She added, “He’s probably sitting there thinking, ‘I’m finally going to go to jail, they’re going to laugh at me, everyone’s going to do this, that, this… He can’t accept that.'”
Smith has raised Seven since he was 11 months old. She described him as a loving grandson.
“There’s nothing in the world that he wouldn’t do for me,” she said.
Smith said the family had no idea what Seven was doing with the gun.
“We don’t know. We don’t know,” she said. “Something needs to be done about the guy who sold the gun because if he had never bought that gun, this wouldn’t have happened.”
Lyric is now hospitalized and has undergone three surgeries on his neck and vocal cords.

21 Savage is described as Seven’s uncle. He posted a photo of Seven on his Instagram Stories with the caption “Remember when you were a baby” and a heartbroken emoji.
“As we prepare for homecoming celebrations for my beloved nephew Seven, I would like to ask that everyone please respect our family’s privacy during this extremely difficult time,” the family said in a statement to 11Alive.

“Please continue to pray for my niece Lyric. She is fighting for her life and we trust God to heal her, give her strength and allow her to make a full recovery,” the statement added.
Smith revealed that just a week before Seven took his own life, his cousin, 13-year-old Demarcus Shirley, was killed in a drive-by shooting while spending the night with friends in DeKalb County.
