U.S. authorities have increased the reward to up to $5 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of those responsible for the murders. Shakir Khanwas a 50-year-old restaurant owner who was shot to death in 2019.Khan, a Pakistani American, was shot to death on the evening of March 30, 2019, outside the Halal Bites restaurant on Riverside Drive in Johnson City. Police said the killing was carried out with an execution-style shooting as he closed his shop at night.Despite years of investigations by local and federal law enforcement, no one has been arrested in connection with the murder. The case remains open and authorities continue to appeal to the public for help.In 2020, police and the FBI offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The initial offer didn’t lead to an arrest, and now, six years later, the department has raised as much as $5 million.Now, the U.S. Department of State’s Justice Rewards Program has publicly announced new rewards of up to $5 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of a person or persons involved in Khan’s murder in any country. The reward is described as a high-value incentive designed to encourage the public to provide tips.The FBI’s Albany Field Office in Binghamton, New York, is working with the New York State Police and Johnson City Police Department on the investigation. All three agencies are seeking information from anyone who may have information about the crime.Authorities say they believe someone may have critical information and are urging people to come forward. Investigators are asking witnesses, acquaintances and others in the community to contact them to see if they can help figure out what happened.Khan’s family and friends also expressed a desire for justice, saying they hoped the increased reward would lead to a breakthrough. Investigators say anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI or local police to assist in the case.
