Who is Oracle senior executive Sharat Chander? Veterans of 2016 experience massive layoffs

“A lot of emotions, positive and negative…”

He shared a detailed post on LinkedIn expressing how the news affected him. He wrote, “You are never 100% prepared for layoffs… Well, for me, that moment has arrived. As of today, my role as Director of Developer Community Engagement has been eliminated at Oracle as part of the #OracleLayoff. Of course, there are a lot of emotions, both positive and negative, to be expected… However, I feel grateful that I have been able to contribute to building what is probably the largest #developer ecosystem and community on Earth… that is #Java.”

He added: “Being able to help so many people reach the top by staying connected to Java gives me purpose. Maybe I could use some #AI to make this message sound more sincere, but then it wouldn’t sound like me or come from the heart. I’m really grateful for the people I’ve worked with, the people I’ve met along the way, and the people who have stayed in touch with me despite the difficulties. “

When did he join Oracle?

According to his LinkedIn information, he joined the company in 2010 as Director: Global Head of Developer Relations. In 2015, he became senior director of product management. He assumed his current position in 2020 but was recently fired.

Who is Sharat Chand?

Sharat Chande holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Maryland and an MBA from Loyola University Maryland, according to his LinkedIn profile. Before joining Oracle, he worked at Verizon and then at Sun Microsystems.

His profile on the Oracle blog states that he has been in the IT industry for the past 20 years. He has technical experience in Java development tools, graphic design, and product/community management.

Outside of the office, he participates in multiple global developer events and Java community events. He has also appeared on tech-related podcasts.

The company is offering affected employees four weeks of base pay, plus one week of severance pay for every year of service, according to documents reviewed by Business Insider. Additional weeks are available up to 26 weeks.

Oracle layoff email:

The email, reportedly sent at 6 a.m., informed affected employees that their roles had been eliminated and they were being terminated, effective immediately.

“We are sharing some difficult news about your position. After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have decided to eliminate your position as part of broader organizational changes. As a result, today is your last working day. Upon signing your termination documents, you will be eligible to receive severance pay in accordance with the terms and conditions of your severance plan. You will receive an email from DocuSign to your Oracle email address containing details about your severance package and termination date. ” the company wrote in an email, according to Business Insider.
