A 19-year-old woman was hit and killed by a garbage truck Queens late Sunday night, according to police. According to the New York Post, the deceased was identified as Nishath Jannath.
she’s crossing 62nd street roosevelt A sanitation truck operated by Royal Waste Services collided with her in a crosswalk on Woodside Avenue around 11:55 p.m.
The truck was traveling west on Roosevelt Avenue, turned right into the northbound lanes of 62nd Street, and struck her on the north side of the intersection, according to police reports.
Nishath Jannath was pronounced dead at the scene
Emergency Medical Services pronounced Janus dead at the scene.
The driver of the sanitation truck, a 38-year-old woman, remained at the scene for treatment for minor injuries. She was not arrested after the tragedy.
After the incident, law enforcement officials reported that the driver of the garbage truck stopped and remained at the scene until police and emergency personnel arrived.
As of now, no charges have been filed against the driver. The case has been transferred to new york police department A collision investigation team conducts additional inspections.
Police also confirmed it was a Royal garbage truck.
However, Royal Waste has not issued any statement so far.
Long Island man charged with murder of girl in Queens SUV attack
A Long Island man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after he allegedly drove his car into a 16-year-old girl and her family in Queens last year, killing the girl and injuring her mother, prosecutors said, according to Spectrum News.
Edwin Cruz Gomez, 38, of Uniondale, was arraigned on a 15-count indictment that includes assault, aggravated vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to the Queens District Attorney’s Office.
The incident occurred just after 4 a.m. on September 13 outside the Prima Donna restaurant on Roosevelt Avenue in Elmhurst, the district attorney said.
Gomez allegedly harassed 16-year-old Jhoanny Saray Gomez-Alvarez and her mother, offering them money in exchange for sex acts.
