Ashlee has built a following on Instagram as @ashleejenae and @xoashleyjenae by documenting what she describes as a “soft living philosophy.” She died at the Serval Wildlife Resort in Tanzania, Joe said, and Tanzanian authorities later determined she had hanged and characterized the death as a suicide. However, her friends and family rejected this claim.

Ashley’s trip to Tanzania was to celebrate her 31st birthday and her recent engagement to Joe, whom she shared several photos with on Instagram.
According to Art Threat, Joe, the founder and CEO of Asymmetry Financial, is a well-known figure in the cryptocurrency and financial circles and is supported by investors such as Marc Andreessen and Chris Dixon.

A post Ashlee shared on April 4 showed her and Joe walking their lioness, with Joe getting down on one knee and proposing to her with a ring. The two then kissed and hugged. The post was titled: “Still somewhere in Africa…”.
In February, Ashley shared a series of photos, many of which were of her and Joe. “Come for the beads, stay for the feel,” she wrote.
Another set of photos Ashlee and Joe shared in December 2025 was captioned, “What does love feel like to you?”
Many people agreed with Savannah in the comments section. One user wrote: “Hanging yourself while on vacation is the most unbelievable thing you can do.” Another wrote: “It makes no sense as it was her birthday and she had just gotten engaged.”
