According to the Iowa Capital Express, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds paid tribute to Cody in a statement, which read: “Today, we mourn the death of Sergeant Declan Cody, a young Iowan who heroically answered his country’s call of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice. Kevin and I offer our deepest condolences to his family and ask all Iowans to join us in praying for their recovery and comfort.”

Funds raised will help cover funeral and memorial costs, travel expenses, and other unexpected expenses to help them get through this heartbreaking time,” the page reads.

As of this writing, $39,085 of the $75,000 goal has been raised.

The drone strike that killed the soldier came a day after the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran, which followed with retaliatory attacks. The operation resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and U.S. President Donald Trump announced in truth social postcalling him “one of the most evil men in history.”
