Who is Clarence Frazier Jr.?
Clarence A. Frazier Jr., 48, of Alexandria, faces federal charges in connection with the murder of a federal officer, specifically Deputy Marshal Drew Hanson. The crime carries a possible sentence of life imprisonment or death.
Hansen became a member of the U.S. Marshals Service in 2020 and was initially assigned to the Southern District alabama. He later transferred to the Western District of Louisiana, where he was serving at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
On Monday, U.S. Marshals Service Chief Gadyaces Serralta said in a statement: “The nation lost a hero on Monday. We are all devastated when Deputy U.S. Marshal Drew Hansen was shot and killed by a dangerous fugitive. His life was vital. Our thoughts and prayers are now with his family and friends and our law enforcement community. Drew selflessly worked to make his community and this country safer. His sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
Complaint Against Clarence A. Frazier Jr.
After his arrest on Monday, authorities filed a complaint against him, which FBI agents detailed in an affidavit and which was later unsealed by a federal magistrate judge on Tuesday.
Acting United States Attorney Todd Branch Fraser said in a press release that he would “pursue accountability to the fullest extent of the law.”
The federal public defender assigned to represent Frazier has not responded to phone and email requests for comment.
Marshals and sheriff’s detectives entered Frazier’s home Monday to serve a warrant for his arrest on contempt of court charges, and found him in his bedroom, according to testimony from FBI Special Agent James Rimmer. Other officials said Frazier fired at police, killing Hanson.
Rimmer said he then barricaded himself in a bedroom and was taken into custody after the confrontation.

Frazier’s trial in the case, which prosecutors filed in 2024, will begin that day in Rapides Parish District Court, according to online court records. He faces one count of third-degree rape, which carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison, and one count of sexual battery on an infirm person, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, according to court documents.
Frazier is listed as a registered sex offender on an online registry run by the local Sheriff’s Department; however, the Registrar’s Office did not disclose specifics about his previous convictions.
