CBS sources told the media that foreign editor Shayndi Raice, recently hired from the Wall Street Journal, will be responsible for all CBS News’ overseas reporting starting on May 11 and will be headquartered in London.

Why was Claire Day removed?

The report said there was a dispute between Weiss and Day after Day “fired back” on Weiss’s call for coverage. Sources told The Washington Post, “Barry has barely spoken to her [Claire]” to help solve her problem.

According to another CBS insider, Day made it clear that she wanted coverage to be fair and balanced and that there would be absolutely no exaggeration in daily editorial calls. Day was similarly cleared of any bias following an internal investigation into possible bias in the reporting, the New York Post reported.

“This is really sad. Claire has been CBS News’ most loyal soldier for nearly a quarter of a century. It’s shocking that Barry and Tom abandoned her because she failed some undefined purity test,” the source said.

Neither Weiss nor CBS News have issued detailed public statements addressing the specifics of the disagreement.
