Former state Rep. Charles Booker has won Kentucky’s Democratic Senate primary, NBC News reports. Booker is the party’s nominee republican party In 2022, Sen. Rand Paul defeated former Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath, who lost to Republican Sen. Rand Paul. Mitch McConnell in the 2020 election.
Booker will now face Donald TrumpEndorse Rep. Andy Barr in the fall.

Booker is married to Tanesha Booker, and the couple has three daughters: Caelynn, Prestin, and Justice. The couple welcomed their youngest daughter, Justice, in August 2021. Prestin was five years old when Justice was born.

“Being a father is my greatest honor and my highest honor. I always say my girls saved my life. They opened my eyes to my future and showed me a love I never knew I had,” Booker previously told “WLKY” in an interview.
Kailyn, who just turned 18, reportedly cast her first vote in her father’s campaign this year.
Tanesha often appears on the campaign trail with her husband, and in 2014 she made headlines when she appeared in a campaign ad supporting McConnell critic Alison Lundegan Grimes.

The couple celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in June 2020. Booker shared a photo with his wife and kids on Facebook, writing: “10 years ago, Tanesha agreed to let me harass her for the rest of my life. I still don’t deserve her. Raising a glass of love on our anniversary.”
When Booker was elected to the state House of Representatives, he became the youngest black state legislator in nearly 90 years.
“I’m not from politics, you know, in our community, those of you who are running for office or elected office, they show up at election time, but other than that, we’re invisible, you know, we’re survivors,” he said at the time.
Booker’s website states, “Charles is a lifelong resident of Louisville’s West Side who grew up in one of the poorest ZIP codes in Kentucky. Growing up, he experienced the pain of poverty firsthand and saw his mother skipping meals just to stay fed. He was homeless and Charles had to ration his insulin because he couldn’t afford the medication he needed as a Type 1 diabetic.”
“Charles became the first in his family to graduate from law school and went on to lead a transformative career in Kentucky, spanning all levels of government,” it added.
