Senator Gabbard told local news outlet Hawaii News Now that his son had been using drugs and appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis. The family reported that Batali Gabbard was taken to Queens Hospital and is currently under 72 hours of psychiatric isolation pending evaluation by doctors to determine further action.
“We love him,” Mike Gabbard told Fox News Digital, noting that the family is praying for his recovery and encouraging others to join them in prayers. The parents further stated that if their son was found guilty, they believed he should receive the harshest possible punishment under the law.
A court date has not yet been set, local KITV television station reported. Honolulu police informed Fox News Digital that Gabbard is no longer in custody.
Tulsi Gabbard resigns
In May, Tulsi Gabbard announced her resignation as President Donald Trump’s director of national intelligence, saying she needed to step down due to her husband’s battle with cancer. She is the fourth Cabinet member to leave the post during Trump’s second term, all of whom are women.
In a resignation letter shared on social media, Gabbard said she had informed Trump of her decision to step down from her role coordinating 18 intelligence agencies effective June 30. She mentioned that her husband was recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer and will face significant challenges in the coming weeks and months.
